Each programme or segment needs differentiating factors that give them an identity, whilst fitting in with the house style. It's just a bit of variety that is attached to each programme.
If so, they should reintroduce programme names and voiceovers.
Weirdly at the 2am TOTH there is a jib in use, usually its just a ped camera settling into position at the left hand side.
Also, does anyone know why certain segments are against different backdrops?
E.G.
Afternoon LIve - Newsroom/Videowall and Island
Live at Five - Gallery backdrop, physical or on videowall
Overnight - Gallery

Not necessarily. Sunrise has its own area because that is an individual show, and we can see clearly from last night why the Press Preview is in the shoebox. In the evenings and overnight, viewers don't want to watch a bright studio like we see during the daytime, and that newsroom backdrop would be deserted of staff at 1am, for example. Therefore having the gallery background gives a darker light for overnight and doesn't rely on having a busy staff behind the presenter.
Not only does it provide some variety in the backdrop, but also encourages viewers to watch the channel by not being too bright a studio overnight, or too empty of staff. It's all about perceptions and subtlety trying to retain viewers.

For the last year or more it's been held together with silver duct tape. It's about time it was sorted. Perhaps only HD viewers could see how tatty it was?
I actually thought the sunrise set is fine, my problem is the desk.

Thats because they replayed the 12-1am hour throughout the night, You can always tell as the TOTH starts with no clock or ticker on screen but has a white box where the clock should be, The graphics are also slightly higher than usual from the ticker and for some reason they used the bigger Sky News logo too

Using News Wall on paper preview again tonight, is the screen broke? I saw it flicker for half a second on Thursday so I'm guessing something was wrong.
What happened for sunrise did they have a screen then?

Sunrise this morning was at the news desk

Normal service shall resume on Monday, they are just upgrading the shoebox as mentioned previously in the thread!

You're talking about a very long term plan of the development of the Osterley site, I wouldn't expect anything to even be officially proposed for a good few years yet.
Studio changes are beeing carried out in Osterley , so I presume the change to the sky studios is far away at the moment.

Not sure if its been mentioned exactly what is happening to the Sunrise (shoebox set) but I hear it's a new red sofa (to match Daybreak and Breakfast), the plasma is turning portrait and there'll be a new desk.
