That old set was really nice! Better than what they have now, the old one had another side for OK!TV(?) which could have been used for light interviews. Never really got used to its full potential, the podium was away in the corner for some reason, never really worked in any shot except for the close.

I guess this comment was inevitable and we need to be very careful not to cross the fine line......

.....Sky News covering the "New Addington" story end to end this evening, as I'm sure many other news organisations are. But Sky is the only one I have access to at the moment.

In the case of Sky, it's the excellent and well experienced Anna Jones in the seat tonight. There seems to be an awful lot of compassion, speculation and newsroom grief about the unfolding events.

Now, you and I, as Joe Public, may be entitled to say so. It's a terrible tragedy and a very seriously sad story. It's human nature to be touched by the ingredients of this unfolding story.

But Anna is overly indulgent in the outpouring of sorrow and grief for the family and the tragedy surrounding them. In some cases, almost flirting with the electric fence that is "impartiality".

What happened to the days when the newsreader would just deliver the story, devoid of emotion as far as possible, and let the viewer make up his own mind.

Don't perceive me as a thoughtless ogre. But, the coverage I've just watched was almost one sided.

Was just watching a repatriation just now live and I remembered this post. If the news was rather one-sided would you prefer it that it wasn't so "slow/emotional" when showing repatriations with the tone and slowness of voice Kay Burley was talking in and the constant fades or would you prefer it that the images were cut together and she spoke in her normal tone of voice in an unemotional voice and just "deliver" the news?

Where abouts is the Sunrise and Press Preview set in relation to the main desk? Also, is it just me who thinks 'Remote Opens' look better than normal ones?

There used to be a clip on Youtube where Martin Stamford gave us a tour around the Sky News studio after the 2008 refresh but I can't find it anywhere.

However this may help. It shows that the Sunrise and Paper review desk is to the left of the presenter.

The camera doing the filming looks to be just above the newswall on the walkway you sometimes see on the TOTH shots.

And yes, that is the Island in that video too - missed by many! Wink

What do you mean by remote/standard? I don't see the difference?

Remote as in with a anchor at a location covering major story, rather than a standard which is..standard.

So why is Anna Jones in Wapping considered standard?

Oh yes, the image and sound quality is far better. They need to send presenters to different locations around the world for each TOTH.

No not that way haha! The camera open, and Anna Jones in Wapping is a normaly UK story, just that they have sent an anchor rather than a reporter to cover it.

I'm hoping that I'm not alone in saying that I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about...

The normal camera move for a TOTH (when the V/O kicks in) is usually just a pedastel coming down to its position and fading to the anchor camers. These 'remote' TOTHs use the jib and looks nicer IMO.

Anna Jones at Wapping was just like any other story, except they sent an anchor rather than a reporter to cover it.
