I'm not sure they want you actually read what it says, even though you want to. I presume it's just to show that there are three alternative ways to view Sky News. Personally I'd like to have the time to read at least the main headline in the TOTH.

All I want to be able to do is read the top headline. If you cannot read it then why go to the effort of making sure it is up to date? You may as well just use a dummy one.

It's impossible to read that headline in normal speed.

Seeing the 2pm one again, it's very apparent that the website, Ipad, and Iphone are all separate animations rather than one continuing animation like I n the past ones. The cut to the Ipad from the website is way too quick and abrupt and this is my main gripe. The website just doesn't show for long enough. That is the only thing that badly needs a change.

NEW TOTH really? In 5 minutes I'll see it for the first time.

Having seen the 3pm, it seems they are showing the phone for twice as long as the website, yet the phone seems not up to date, really don't get why they don't swap it around and show the website for longer.

Best TOTH they ever had IMO!

Because it's all about promoting newer platforms to get Sky News. On mobile and on iPad.

So why get the website clip to be a live feed of the top story from the live website, if you can't read it, and then show the mobile which is not a live feed for longer. Really half a second more on the website and less on the mobile will make things much better.

The problem is on the new TOTH they've removed all latest news information from it totally apart from the website and even then it is impossible to read the top story because it doesn't show for long enough. I like the new TOTH though but they seemed to have dropped substance for style when with a few tweaks they could have both.

It reminds me of the Sky News Arabia TOTH with the transitions of the media devices ... etc

Also, the Ipad, Iphone and Website are all up to date, not just the Website.

I think they could solve the problem by reintroducing the coming up sequence and the words: You are watching skynews, on our website skynews. com ... then they could show the website before going into break.

Are we sure the iPad/mobile bits aren't also live? I've only seen the TV Newsroom clip but on that all three (website, iPad, mobile) were showing this lunchtime's top stories.

Better than it was, though.
If Sky weren't so besotted with Apple, they may feature their Android app too!

Agreed, it is a much more polished animation. Apart from the overlayed 'swooping' sound effects I can't hear any difference to the tune. As for the Android app, it's identical to the iPhone app, even down to the iPhone style tab bar, so there is no point showing an Android phone alongside the iPhone.

Agree about the Android and iPhone apps now being the same (took quite a few months to catch up, though), just a shame that it doesn't work brilliantly on tablets and Android has nothing like as good as the iPad app.

Fairly sure that the whole thing (iPad, mobile and online animation) is live.

Indeed, someone who works on graphics for Sky News has said this on Twitter,

Quote:
@errongordon Correct. All the (very brief) images you see are live feeds from our website and are refreshed when the cue button is pressed

It seems to be, but again you can't see the top headline on the Iphone as it scrolls down before the yellow breaking news flicker vanishes from the top of it.

It's all very well having live feeds, but it makes no difference when nobody can read them. You may as well just use dummy feeds, nobody will notice the difference at normal speed.

If it was dummy info - it would date quickly and may need to be changed as news moves on and progresses. The live feed idea reflects that Sky News is constantly updating, instant, live and breaking stories, so re-inforces the brand. You may not be able to read it all - you're not meant to ... after all the headlines are in a matter of seconds! You can see the odd bit of detail and the images give you an idea of the hours agenda. Stop moaning and grow up, it's all in the detail!
