I get a sense that the Sky News of the early 2000s will haunt the channel for years to come yet. Yep, I know this is a pres forum etc etc, but a news channel isn't about flashy camera angles, whizzy graphics, whooshes, jibs, walking around etc.

I couldn't disagree more. To me, Sky has completely lost it's way from a presentation point of view. They used to keep us on our toes here on TVF with regular refreshes and all the latest innovations.

The 2005 relaunch was just jaw-dropping to me, and when it was replaced with the awful ticking clock and the current website advert TOTHs I stopped watching.

In fact, how come it's been so long since they've revamped the TOTH. How long have we had the current one?

Oooh, it's been 2 whole years! No wonder it's looking dated Rolling Eyes

I personally think that the current style is the best, and the most serious, Sky have ever done. Atlantic and Sky News are the only channels that seem to have survived and prospered presentation-wise since the corporate rebrand in 2010/11.
Boulton and Co do use a television screen instead of split screen when conducting interviews, and I think Murnaghan does as well.

I wish they'd use that in normal bulletins too.
Anything to stop them split-screening....... Mad

What's wrong with split screens? Surely it's the easiest and clearest way to see both a presenter and the guest, or both of the guests?

To me it just looks like live interviews are a bit of an after thought. Granted what you say about them being clean.
Maybe it's just Sky News' presentation of them I dislike.... (as I seem to be in the minority of disliking them, and I'm not really sure why!)

Since 7th May 2010 I think? I don't think its been changed at all since the 2010 relaunch.

But the thing is these graphics are actually really nice, sleek and modern compared to other news channels. and due to the fact that the graphics has been there for so long its stuck with the channel, like a brand....

I don't get your problem with the splitscreen! You should be rather concerned about the theme music!

Oh and the usage of the newswall and nice studio and the coming up into break sequence and the voiceover and the nice diversified programs and the isle and the boring and simple on screen graphics and oh yes there is no problem with the toth at all!

Oh and I forgot to say that the same presenters are presenting the same shifts for ages and there is no
double- headed presentation anymore!

Reading the article on tvnewsroom about skynews now available in the US.
Is it possible to see sky news target different continents at certain times during the day, similar to BBCs News Day and what Al Jazeera offered.

E.G: Sunrise til 9. 9-10 australia back to the k for Sky Today until 12. Then an hour in Middle East. Boulton and Co at 1 then America 2-3 then back to the UK until 5 back over to australia. 6 a flagship hour looking at uk and international news. 7 JR LIVE. 8 MIddle East 9 America 10 UK. ?
(not necessary these times but the idea)
Trying to keep the individual programmes Sunrise, Boulton &co and JR LIVE.

Edit: or just have a seperate international feed dipping in and out like the example above and not the uk channel.

rightok32: You are in the minority, but as the quote above shows, there are a few other people who agree with you. I personally value the serious news channel approach Sky now have much more than the tabloid-style OTT news channel approach that some members would rather watch.

phil94: Theme music is nowhere near as important as the presentation of interviews and correspondents reporting. It seems to me that your priorities for a news channel - that is a channel that informs viewers of serious news stories - are completely wrong. Are you genuinely telling me you would rather watch a channel with short shifts, constantly changing studios, glitzy graphics and twice as many presenters? It really baffles me that the only thing you like about Sky News is a 20-second TOTH graphic.

I could see sky over time developing an international channel which dipped into several country specific ones. This all depends of course on both the Murdoch stuff, but more importantly on the success of the Arabia launch. If Sky make a success of it we could see far more international news programming from them.
