I really cannot fathom as to why people would rather SN UK emulated SN AU. The graphics are far weaker, the music is poor, and whilst they had a Countdown in-style with the UK TOTH graphics, they now have this weird countdown that doesn't have any relation to the brand.

Why would you go from the current, lovely graphics, to this quick mock-up?

This looks In my opinion better, because compared to the SKYNEWS UK graphics these graphics look balanced and the skynews uk graphics stop in the left middle of the screen ( at least for those who can only watch in SD). Plus the skynews aus graphics consist of a 3D logo , the uk ones look like they are made by a bad power point programme.

I'd disagree, these graphics are terrible and would never be as good as the Sky News UK graphics...

You're clearly on a different planet Phil. With all due respect, in terms of design - that is awful. The current on screen furniture is well thought out, regimented, clean and clear and most importantly works well. Sky News UK's output will not benefit from shoddier looking graphics and badly cut music.

OK. I'll give up.

Not to mention that, when doing the mock-up, it doesn't look like it fits any form of Safe-area. The ticker is just about in the 4:3 area, the weather in 16:9 title safe and then 4:3, and the clock is in 16:9 title safe.

Why on earth does the headline strap have to be so high, also?

The reason it stops is because it's 4:3 safe, whereas HD doesn't have to be because all HD televisions are 16:9. They can't exactly help that unless they want to abandon the safe zone.

But you can also stream a 16:9 format on a 4:3 tv ( you will have a black zone at the top and bottom of the tv.) Or why don' t they make the ticker running trough the whole picture ( like in the 2007 package)an put the clock near the logo then it wouldn't matter if the tv is 4:3 or 16:9. And by the way in the 21st century nearly every TV should be 16:9.

You'd think that, wouldn't you? But then again, I doubt you've read Digital Spew or, once upon a time, the Points of View messageboard.

To accommodate a scrolling ticker of commercial sponsors every once in a while.

Are they using a new background on the sunrise screen for the papers or is it just the normal background on its side?, Could not get a screen cap in time but it looked interesting
