I'm sorry, did you just seriously suggest that Sky News Australia is in some way a superior service to Sky UK based on its use of sound effects ?

Go and have a look in the Sky News section at Media Spy and you'll see that it is universally hated amongst media-savvy Australians for having a dreadfully outdated set, a muddled mix of Sky UK graphics and their own horrific designs, lazy and inaccurate camera work, a skeleton crew of reporters producing very little original content, an incredibly repetitive news schedule punctuated by tedious and uninformative opinion programmes, extremely intrusive advertising in the news ticker and in the middle of the screen during headlines, and many other serious problems that have all been completely ignored for years by an inept chief executive whose only priority is delivering advertising revenue cheques to co-owners Seven, Nine and BSkyB.

But they have a swoosh at the top of the hour.

Hear hear.
I really do think you need to sort out your priorities in what you want from a news channel...
But if you still want swooshes and sirens and Armageddon graphics, then I suggest that you visit channel 509 on your Sky box. I hear they have plenty of sound effects across the pond.

Neal "@fieldproducer" Mann is leaving Sky News and reportedly so is Ruth Barnett. Obvious speculation is that it is to do with that recent social media policy.

Mann in particular is a very big loss such is the respect he's earned over the last couple of years, he's given a lot of credibility to Sky in the eyes of many who wouldn't usually go near the channel. Ruth, too, was great, talked to her once when she was working on a story related to something I was working on and she was very nice and very professional.

Best of luck to both of them.

Didn't he recently get promoted to sort out the Sky News website? Major loss. 42,000 followers says it all really. Here's the tweet itself:

"I've decided to leave Sky News. I've had a brilliant 3 years, but the time has come to discover what else is out there."

Ruth Barnett has confirmed she is leaving to become Head of Communications at SwiftKey, but tweets her decision "isn't over any alleged Twitter rules row, just a decision to seize an opportunity to learn new skills and take an exciting risk."

A rather concerning article that suggests that BSkyB Chief Exec Jeremy Darroch forced Sky News to pull a story published about the future of Formula 1 governance after being called by the executive producer of Sky Sports F1, Martin Turner, who said the article was causing a negative reaction from some F1 teams. The article was written by Mark Kleinman and appeared on Friday evening.

A review was carried out over the weekend by John Ryley, the Head of Sky News, and the article was republished today with some revisions.

While its good the article reappeared today, it strikes me as somewhat concerning that the story was pulled essentially because Sky Sports didn't want to upset anyone on their first F1 weekend resulting in them having difficulty getting access to the teams over the course of the season.
