Well only a year ago that sort of story would have been ignored, or only mentioned in passing. Sky News have come quite a long way in seperating themselves from NI since last summer.

Sky News has never been directly connected to News International - thus never having to 'separate' as you put it. I think you'll find as it stands at the moment BSkyB is an entirely separate company from News International.

Indeed and I think Sky, like everyone else bar The Guardian, only began extensive coverage of the phone hacking story after the Milly Dowler revelations because up until then the story hadn't captured the wider public's imagination. Since then their coverage has been exemplary and makes arguments that Sky News somehow resembles Fox News even more laughable.

I think the relationship between Sky News and News Corp has been toxic since the rumours of Murdoch abandoning the channel so that he could get his hands on the whole of BskyB emerged, let alone the hacking scandal.
Over the past year, Sky's presenters at least, have clearly shown there's very little love for News Corp these days. So discussing this issue and distancing themselves quite publicly from Murdoch has been important for them.

Just a couple of questions...

-Who makes their maps?
-Who made their music?
-What cameras / mics do they use?

These are just questions out of curiosity.

I only know that their music is composed by David Arnold and recorded with a 60-piece royal philharmonic orchestra.

Map are mainly sourced by Bing (sometimes by Google or Nasa view) - usually powered by Viz..

Phil94 answered the music question..

And the cameras -- There are 12 Grass Valley LDK 8000 HD cameras in Sky Centre, (2 are jibs) most of them are remotely controlled by Vinten Radamec systems.

All 12 cameras have AutoScript (autocue) attached..

I'm not sure about the mics.. but they are probably made by Sennheiser...

Thanks for that Johnnie.
Just one more thing, what are the jibs? and are they remotely controlled too?

Do the reporters cameramen have the same cameras or different?

What kind of tripods do they use? (In the studio / outside)

This photo (found from the above link) shows them to be the standard jimmy jib triangles.

Some great coverage of Prince Harrys tour by Skynews. Its great to see the human side of the royals and Prince Harry epitomises that. Paul Harrison has been fantastic aswell. I predict a big future for him following in the footsteps of his father who was a fine BBC South Afrcia correspondent.

Actually music was composed by Adelphoi. Orchestration was by (the, but not 'THE') David Arnold. RPO details are correct, though not officially...
