Did you know most of the music themes for now used for Sky News from 2004 on the current theme can be downloaded for free on www.watvmusic.co.cc.

And here, on a different site, is Sky News' first theme -- originally an American local news theme:

Only a few of thses custs were ever heard on Sky News, though.

I just tried to upload watvmusic.co.cc and it is not working now. I have seen that it does not contain themes from Sky News on it's youtube channel which I have to say is quite unusual. Shocked

Absolutely superb stuff from Stuart Ramsay reporting from Homs in Syria today.

And only fair to note that the BBC's Paul Wood iss also doing a great job reporting out of the area.

Going of topic slightly, Sky News has brought out strict new guidelines for its staff using Twitter. The details are here:

Seems a retrograde step to me.

The vast majority of it seems like reasonable steps to create a solid social media policy, however not allowing Sky staff to retweet non-Sky journalists is misguided and unworkable. While the reaction from some 'media insiders' on Twitter has been over the top, the FT's Ben Fenton has written a pretty fair assessment of the policy,
Quote:

I couldn’t reach Brunt or Mann last night, but one of their colleagues told me: “The ban on retweeting is probably the only part of the policy that has got people upset. But if you are someone like Neal it’s a key part of what you do.”

“As for the rest of us, how can we expect other journalists to distribute our scoops if they know we are never going to do the same in return? It just goes against everything Twitter does, everything that has made it such an incredible tool for journalists.

This seems a bit OTT as well

The new guidelines also warn Sky News journalists to "stick to your own beat" and not to tweet about non-work subjects from their professional accounts

So for example tweeting a happy birthday message is banned? Or an occassional tweet about sport? While I can see why Sky don't want 'professional' accounts to be cluttered with non-news tweets, what harm does the odd one do?

Don't know if anyone noticed but Sky News went to a break at 20:57. They started their TOTH at 21:02 real time but it came up on the ticker as 21:00. Did they change the time to suit their TOTH. Its currently running 2 mins slow.

Ah just realised I did a Jake Humphrey and had my sky box on a pause for 2 minutes! Apologies for that.

What a wonderful opening shot on Sky News at two just there. The jib camera shot for the voiceover zoomed into Kay Burley with a newswall background and was used as the opening camera. Was just like the old Afternoon Live opening shots but at the desk. Was truly a magnificent opening. If anyone captured it its worth showing.
