I remember it breaking a couple of nights ago too. It does seem a little bit over the top to be using an iPad to control the newspaper front pages, in any case.
The iPad's just failed on the paper review. Now the papers are being changed manually on the graphics.

You assume the monitors have speakers... on virtually all professional and commercial grade displays speakers are an optional addition.
Furthermore, the screens will not be being fed with a signal picked up on a sky box. They will be fed from an output of the building's video matrix (which will almost certainly have off-air inputs, but the studio output would probably be more useful source for floor monitors).
All speakers on the studio floor will be fed from outputs on the sound desk. These can be set up in a multitude of ways, normally including the ability to mute / dip the speakers when any mics are live.
When the presenters are watching the tv screens infront of them from the main studio, is it on mute or can they hear? As I was wondering if the sound may get picked up by the mic or something.

Just to correct myself, I've just seen the Sky News building is on the plan for demolition - although it's the final phase, so still a few years off yet.

I'd be surprised if that's in the works - or if it is I don't think it's specifically for Sky News... I'm not sure it would make much sense to move Sky News out of their current building a few metres up the road, since they are already consolidated - although the idea is certainly true for all other departments, and I'm sure the Sky News building would form part of this new campus.

ohhh. Thanks
Think of it like a radio studio, where the output on the speakers cuts out as soon as the mic is faded up. In a TV studio you hear the audio of pre-recorded packages, but no audio when the presenter's talking.
ohhh. Thanks

I work there. Also the redevelopment plans will be in the public domain.

I don't think that such a significant event gets boring. It is worth a coverage for days . There are still 17 people missing. And everytime when I see the costa ship that run aground I can't believe my eyes
Continuous coverage of the ship crash is starting to get boring, watching a barely visible (night) view of a still ship gets quite annoying after a while...

You're right, but nothing significant has been happening, they don't need to show pictures/live video of the ship every hour, only when something actually happens, which is pretty much one or twice every 24 hours, compared to the many hours of air time that its receiving...
