John Riley has appointed Sky's external legal adviser to audit 5 years worth of emails to check if there has been any "illicit news-gathering methods" used by Sky News. Interestingly, it apparently includes their star reporters, which I presume is the likes of Martin Brunt and Mark Kleinman.

Some wins for Sky at the Foreign Press Association Awards tonight.

Alex Crawford, Tim Miller and Martin Smith won the 'News Story of the Year TV' award for coverage of The Battle for Zawiyah.

Sky News for iPad won the innovation award.

Both very much deserved I think.

A change which I haven't noticed before on Sky News: the "Live" symbol in the top corner lacks the location of where the footage is coming from. It allows us to see more of the screen, I quite like it.

Indeed, seems there has been a lot of tweaks and new elements over the last few weeks.

Here's a generic Sky Promo Endcap for Sky News inline with ones for Sky Moves/Sky1 etc, interesting as I haven't seen this style used before? Looks rather nice!

I find it irritating now, but has any one else noticed that at the beginning of every TOTH, the sound is muted for about a second. It's minor, but extremely annoying.

Yes. It's one of those things you listen out for when you know it happens.

Do you watch in HD? I was wondering if it was just the HD channel.

It's even worst when they return from breaks and you are not able to hear the first three words of the presenter.

Not noticed that one. Is that through an amp? Could it be the amp switching to different sound formats?

Is it not about time Sky News was renamed Sky Press Preview. That appears to be all we get theses days.

With the Press featuring so heavily in the headlines lately, it could be that the producers want to keep a focus on how the papers are covering current affairs. Having said that, I've not noticed any increase in the number of Press Previews. Maybe they're just upping the profile of these previews with guests and frequent reminders instead.

Have to disagree, an hour and a half out of 24 hours a day is hardly overkill. 6% of scheduling is given to press previews hardly consuming all of skynews in fairness.

Lost The Remote
A rare Sunday morning watching Sky News and it didn't take long for them to annoy me. It's all "on Sky News HD, mobile, iPad and online."

FFS, Sky News SD on Freeview will have more people watching than all of the above combined. Mad Sky should be embracing the audience that's actually keeping it on air. If it could survive on pay TV only like its sister channel Sky Sports News it would have switched already.
