I can only think the presenter uses the tablet as previously there was some delay in switching between papers and they can zoom in on certain stories for the viewer to see.

Correct. The presenter is now controlling the plasma from the iPad. Works well. As you say it cuts down on the delay between the presenter mentioning a paper and it appearing on the plasma.

Noticed more changes to the weather presentation during sunrise yesterday, The newswall displays today's weather and some extra information for some cities like on the HD side panels, Then the camera moves further across the wall to briefly show the weather for the next 3 days

Doesn't look too bad, except that at one point this morning the cameraman decided to start panning across a bit too early, leaving the weather forecaster off-camera and still describing the map while we were looking at the blank side of the newswall.

Some things never change... From the TV Studio History website:

Quote:
One of the trickiest jobs as a young and inexperienced cameraman was doing the 'weather pan'. One camera had a locked-off shot looking at the Atlantic chart. The weather man - Jack Scott, Michael Fish, Ian McCaskill etc. - then moved to a smaller chart showing today's weather. This was being framed by another camera. At some point he would take three or four paces right to the next chart showing tonight's weather. Since there was no script and it was unrehearsed you had to take your own cue when to pan. It sounds simple but was highly nerve-racking as there were many false moves as he might take a pace camera-right and stretch across the chart to indicate East Anglia or the weather in the North Sea. Some individuals would move very briskly and if you were not careful he would leave you behind. Of course, if you incorrectly started to pan too soon then you either had to continue and leave him behind or stop and pan back in a rather pathetic manner. This, of course, is when he would notice that you had begun the move and as you panned back to the left he would leave the frame on the right. You can imagine the various cock-ups possible on this, the simplest of camera moves. At some point they all must have happened although never of course by me. No really. Honestly.

Stumbled across some videos on YouTube earlier, showing behind the scenes footage from the gallery. Thought they might be of interest to some on here:

Thanks for posting these, It was nice to see behind the scenes

It looks like someone forgot to update the weather on the ticker, All showing part of a moon without the temperature, Now they have removed it from the ticker completely

I've noticed recently that they do intermittently remove the weather from the ticker.
Talking of the weather, I really like the new Sunrise weather bulletin - the introduction of the side panel graphic to the news wall is good, but my favourite part is the 3-day forecast at the end. It's simple, but very effective on the news wall and adds a bit more movement to the weather forecast.

The Press Preview is always good on a Monday - Maguire and Pierce always make the time fly by. They know their stuff, but there's always a good bit of banter. I quite like Samantha Simmonds on the late shift too!

It looks like a new schedule for after the half-hour on Sunrise. Before it was Headlines - Papers - Advert - Pollen Count, but now they have the headlines, then a quick word (20 seconds) with the paper reviews, then an advert and the pollen count, before about 10 minutes of newspaper reviews.
It's good to see the paper reviewers getting more time. Like you say, it will be interesting to see Jon Gaunt or James Whale with another reviewer.
