strange on the interactive service you can see martin stanford reading the headlines and it seems that he is presenting from the isle

Nope, definitely from the green screen that is usually used for the interactvie bulletins, just with a gallery backdrop.

As a side note: isn't the green screen located on the balcony nowadays? I'm pretty sure that the Channel 5 news updates come from the balcony - and it would explain why it's not used on Sky News any more.

Yes - I remember reading this before, plus they have a Tricaster up there from the SkyNews.com programme days - probably what the use to cut the chroma?

the voiceover for sky world news now also says only :"this is sky news"

Pleased to see the 8pm bulletin with Martin now all but resembles the rest of the standard Sky News bulletins. Good to have the voiceover used for it aswell, would have been odd if it was the only show (other than Jeff Randall Live) without a voiceover. The evening schedule is now miles better than what it was before, the 8pm is no longer repetitive and I think Sky News at 9 and the early press previews are good additions.

Having been a sceptic with regards to these changes at first, I must say I am beginning to warm to them. Effectively each hour is now just as good as the next rather than content varying from programme to programme, with the obvious exception of Jeff Randall Live and Boulton and Co. It all adds more consistency to the channel.

I would like to see more of the set used but that is just the 'anorak' in me, I accept that regular viewers couldn't care less and probably haven't even noticed the changes.

Two well-respected and influential commentators on the Press Preview this evening, in the shape of Professor Robert Winston and James Caan. Impressive, if only they could have others like them on the show each night.

When I first became a regular Sky News viewer (about a decade ago) one of the things that impressed me was how consistent the channel was across the day - you could tune in any time between 6am and midnight and you would get a very good news service, fronted by a strong combination of presenters using roughly the same format.

The recent changes go some way to recover that consistency, but IMHO the single-headed format still means that the channel is lacking a little of the pace and zest that it used to have.

totally agree, especially about the double headed presentation

I couldn't agree more that the channel needs to reinstate a double headed presentation to give it a sense of feeling and warmth. It's A little 'cold' if you know what I mean with it being single headed.

I was quite surprised to receive a response to my email that I sent to one of the senior people at Sky News about the schedule changes.

This is what they said...

Quote:
Sky News is constantly evolving. We continue to review and change our format to ensure a consistent look and remain as the channel which is First for Breaking News.

I’m sorry that you are not happy with the recent changes and I will make sure your feedback is passed on to other senior news executives.

We appreciate you taking the time to write to us.

Regards

Doesn't say much, but at least I got a response. Smile

Reading between the lines it seems that the magazine format style programmes were infact hampering how they were dealing with/delivering Breaking News and they seem to have gone back to their roots to ensure that they can deliver the news in a more direct approach.

Must say I never noticed there ever being an issue with them Breaking a story in the previous incarnation of the channel (unless they were on an Ad break for example).

Just now seems a total waste of such a great studio... surely they will lose more money not utilising it to its full potential - unless theyre going to downsize it?

Credit where credit is due, I have always found them to be very good a responding to viewers emails.

Adam Boulton seemed to get very personal in the interview with Baroness Warsi just now... Is he always like that in interviews? I rarely see Boulton and Co, but today I've managed to see it and the discussion seemed overly-heated.

Have they changed the title sequences now as well... the 'zooming down the tunnel' seems to have now changed to just a Sky News logo wobbling around like a screensaver. The channel is looking very cheap now and it's a great shame.
