The results of one poll (commissioned by the Sun, Sky News, and paid for by Rupert Murdoch) comes through, and Kay Burley goes to the politicians, and says "Well your/their guy won, what have you to say for yourself..."
Jeff Randall constantly saying the Markets go down when the Tories don't look like they are winning, is there a proven correlation, or is it just implied by Sky?
Steve Dixon reviewing the papers with a Tory supporter and a LibDem/hung parliament supporter, and siding with the Tory supporter to try to rubbish her views and opinions. Is that fair and balanced?
1. That's her job.
2. Randall is pro-Tory but he's the only on-air Sky News personality I can think of that is evident.
3. I have never seen any indication of political leanings from Dixon.
I think the problem about Burley and that Sun poll was that there was an ITV/Comres poll which came out about ten mins later indicating Clegg had won. She did not then retract her earlier 'Cameron won' comment (to just about everyone) and instead ignored the ITV poll and kept bleating that 'Cameron won', despite a huge graphic on the screen saying otherwise.
Sky will say they give equal air time in general, but if it is a bad story for one of the parties, they will have plenty of time to that party's guests or spokesmen, but if there is a positive or general day of news, how many anti-Tories get on compared to indifferent or pro Tories?
I don't think anyone here could deny that Sky News' credibility is at an all-time low, HD or not.
Just wondering how people on here would turn it around? Getting rid of Burley would be top of my list, but what else?
Burley was at an all time high in terms of annoyance this afternoon. She didn't help herself when she practically verbally attacked a protestor in trying to persuade him that their protest was all a waste of time and they should all go home and just watch Sky News!
Well for their political coverage reputation, I would insist that interviews be done with multiple questioners, one to be pro or anti the party being interviewed, and them clearly marked so we have balance.
I would also bring in duel presenting teams to bring the appearance of balance to all reporting
I would also cut down the sports updates, with an indication for more sports news, go to "Sky Sports News"
I would also reduce the 3D graphics for newswall coverage to be use for science/technical stories, or military/war coverage.
And I would end the "self-congratulation" the channel shoves in our face. No more "channel of the year" with 3D trophies, and no more adverts bigging up their tv-penis!
Well the Murdoch issue is what will always create suspicion and bring down the entire BskyB reputation. But I highly doubt they will leave the News Corp family any time soon, if at all.
It is a shame that Sky has such a tarnished reputation because of Murdoch, considering how good the network could be.
Funnily enough, I thought she handled the heckling pretty well in fact! She carried on much longer than I anticipated and I don't think it could have been shrugged-off any better by any other live news anchor from any channel in the same position. Having said that, I still don't particularly like Kay Burley but that's my own opinion.
Jeff Randall aside I don't buy the bias accustations one bit. People let their own political persuasions get in the way of making a sound judgement. No one is forcing any one to watch Sky News, if people have so many issues with it then simply don't watch it. Kay Burley may be brash and I am not her biggest fan but I don't think she has any intention to be biased and I certainly don't think Sky management would encourage her or anyone else for that manner to be.

Dual interviews with Nick Griffin with one Sky News employee as pro-BNP and one anti-BNP?
