Jeff Randall Live will broadcast from Abu Dhabi tonight.
Also in Abu Dhabi are John Ryley and James Murdoch at the first annual media summit, where earlier today they held a press conference about Sky News Arabia. They confirmed a 2012 Q2 launch but said multimedia applications may launch prior to the actual channel. Apparently they said that the current situation with BSkyB/News Corp bid in the UK would have no impact on the project.

and the camera showed the sky centre from an unusual and interesting angle during the voiceover!
Voiceover of "This is Afternoon Live with Lorna Dunkley and Colin Brazier
in Tokyo
". Quick work if it was specially recorded! Can't think of any other time when they would have recorded it previously.

Video of the mock-up of the new Sky News Arabia studio. Nice music too:
A new black glass look Sky News logo at the end too.

Wow - that studio looks fantastic, lots of elements from the Sky News UK studio design.

If it is really that big, then that would be much bigger than Osterley. Was at the beginning and ed one news wall, then another newswall on the platform area?
Maybe Sky World News should come from there?

Only a mock up of course but nonetheless it looks superb, wonder how long it will take to build?
I suspect if they could start the UK studio from scratch they might come up with something similar to this, it seems a lot more practical and flexible than the Osterley set.
There must be a lot of money behind this project because it is going to be very, very challenging to have an impact on a fairly crowded market place in the MENA region.
There is a bit more detail on the channels website,

This service looks a bit more ambitious than BBC Arabic, it all depends how its promoted. AlJazeera and AlArabiya shouldn't really be worried by this, but I have a feeling Sky News Arabia will rival AlArabiya (which is based in Dubai) as it is quite an innovative channel with fast paced bulletins etc.
I read a rumour that 1 or 2 of the 5 female anchors who resigned from AlJazeera Arabic last year have been approached, as they were quite popular faces in the Arab world.
