The new Murnaghan show is very unimpressive. Dermot himself has shown this morning how poor an interviewer he actually is. Having the show in Westminster adds nothing to the programme and the set itself is a disappointment.
Thought 'Murnaghan' was pretty good content, but as usual let down by an unimaginative title sequence if you can call it that, a set that is a carbon copy of its Osterley counterpart (making it pointless) which is a huge mistake and direction which was lack-luster and dull.
I would want to see a better opening to the show, it wasn't exactly the big sell; a close up of DM, a short sting and a cut away to a single guest followed by the uninspiring dulcet tones of Mr Dull - Matt Smith. I thought they also missed a trick not putting the programme logo on the supers, instead of a bog standard red slug.
I thought Dermot did well and the content was ok but I was disappointed by the presentation. My main issue is that they should have made the Millbank newsroom the focal point of the set. It's a really nice, fresh, modern and relatively large newsroom that didn't need to be hidden/overshadowed by the stripped lighting etc. There was no need for another gallery backdrop in my view.
I think it would have been better to have the newsroom background behind Dermot, having him sit in front of the lighting made it look green screen-esque. There are other presentation areas in the new studio and hopefully they will be utilized better in Boulton and Co.
Presentation wise it would have been nice to see them differentiate the show a bit more, something that I think they do very successfully with Jeff Randall Live.
Don't want to be too negative as it was only the first show and I think with a bit of tweaking it will be a fine programme. Certainly despite my complaints I found it more watchable that Sunday Live with Adam.

I get the feeling they were a little overcautious with both the show presentation and the studio layout. As you say, there's other areas of Millbank that are much nicer than where Dermot was, and hopefully they'll become a bit more ambitious as the show goes on.
Do people not think Dermot was a massive problem himself. In the interviews I saw there was no detailed discussion and he was content to just keep moving on rather than interrogating his quests on different matters.

I actually thought his interviews were pretty good. His questioning of Alan Johnson showed that he was very well prepared to be able to rattle off figures as he was doing and all the interviews covered a wide range of topics not just a single issue.
The paper review was a bit strange with 3 people doing it.

Not sure I get what you're saying... Did he keep moving on or did he not cover enough different matters? Surely it can't be both.

I mentioned earlier in the thread how dull I thought the Osterley studio had become - especially the constant use of the gallery as a backdrop, now they have just carbon copied it in Westminster even down to a smaller version of the news desk...
Why?!
I actually quite liked the old Westminster studio and it never had enough use in my opinion, it probably did look slightly old fashioned, but at least it stood out from Osterley, what's the point of making a deal that these new shows are from Westminster when it doesn't look much different to the main studio, and let’s be honest the majority of viewers who aren't quite as well versed as us lot - won't even realise it is a different studio.
I agree with a poster above, it would have been nice if the show was more graphical branded - a bit like the American news channels do, each show has its branding and variation of on-screen graphics, be nice to see this across the channel.
It does feel like Sky News lacks a somewhat great deal of creativeness.
I wonder how Boulton & Co will work, as in where will Sarah Hughes be sat, the news desk doesn't look designed for 2 anchors does it...
Judging by the ads running on the Sky News website 'Boulton and Co' has a very similar logo to 'Murnaghan', main difference being that it is not all written in upper case.
Ian Woods doing a good job reporting from Brisbane on the floods, currently interviewing Julia Gillard. Indeed I think Ian has done a great job since being appointed as the Australian correspondent.
Sky News putting a bit of effort into the opening jib shots today it seems from the couple I've seen. Nice 180 degree pan and sweep to the desk for the top of Live at Five. This seems to happen now and again, then they seem to go pretty boring.
