Interesting report in the FT which says that Sky and ITV held substantive negotiations about a possible news merger in 2006 but that they were dropped when Sky purchased shareholdings in ITV to block Virgin Media's attempted takeover of ITV.

The new news operation would have been controlled by BSkyB and the report says the talks were enacted because Dawn Airey was under pressure as Sky News was loosing 'tens of millions' of pounds a year.

Sounds like the BBC's "Sunday Morning Live" programme they had a few months ago, that was presented by Susanna Reid.

How? Wasn't Sunday Morning Live a religious programme?

They spoke about ethics and morals as well, but the format is similar. As in, having twitter discussions and focusing on debates about events in the news and discussing issues affecting people's everyday lives.

Still no announced launch date for 'Boulton and Co' or for the morning news strand that Adam mentioned in his blog post, I guess they mightn't be launching for a couple of weeks.

The new studio has to be near completion, unless Murnaghan will be coming from Sky Centre. I guess there will be further schedule changes.

I think Sunrise should get its own look, its music is too downbeat and serious for that time in the morning. It needs something a little more lighter. Plus they should block out the newsroom view in its set, because it looks too dark and empty at that time in the morning.

I don't think it looks empty at all, there's often quite a number of people walking around. Sure, there's nobody at the desks or anything, but there's certainly some activity. And I agree that Sunrise should get it's own look. Maybe follow the route Jeff Randall Live has taken, now having it's own graphics and unique show logo.

Yeah, I don't think it should move away fully from the Sky News theme, just a variation to make it its own programme. Just to make it a little bit more "sunrise".

Just before 19:00, Jeremy Thompson was talking about some news or something and over his shoulder I could see Paula Middlehurst getting her make-up done by a woman with a brush!
