First time I've seen Gamal Fahnbulleh on Sky News - reporting from Wrotham in Essex just a few minutes ago.

He's been with Sky for a few weeks. He was definitely reporting on the first set of student riots from within the crowd.

Have Sky News changed their preferred cold weather clothing supplier?

Used to be The North Face that the majority wore, this cold snap Berghaus seems to have taken over!!

I've been seeing a lot of The North Face on air today with the various reporters & corespondents covering the weather.

Afternoon Live has moved to the newsdesk for the later part of the show - perhaps to facilitate Nick Powell on a more comfortable live web chat experience?

I see that Sky News have updated Sky News Active again (I'm not sure when this happened, I haven't pressed red on the channel since they reduced it to 4 mini screens earlier this year).

They have gone down the BBC route of combing the text and 'interactive' services so that pressing red or text on the remote now does the same thing. Like the BBC, you can also access it from other Sky channels and some of the pages have page numbers. In fact, the service is no longer called Sky News Active. It is called i-Text, but I have not heard or seen it called this on air yet.

So combining it to Text services would assume cost cutting. Merging it with text services puts everything in one place though. Maybe they will no longer promote the Active service on SkyNews now, I am unsure if they have since the HD Launch

I think they promoted it today during the snow coverage actually. That is probably what subconsciously made me press red, that and the fact that I was 'working from home' due to the snow and didn't have much to do.

EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that this version shows the adverts when you are watching Sky News within the service. I don't think you could watch Sky News within the previous incarnation but the one before that blanked the adverts out with a 'Sky News continues shortly' caption and music.

It's one thing standardising the service - it's quite another using the most basic look possible. The same content could have been delivered within something similar to the previous Sky Text look - surely bandwidth isn't that much of a problem, especially if duplicated content is being removed.

Is it the same for Sky Sports now too - I'm guessing though they still need their own application for things like the Champions League. Do they still offer "itneractive" coverage of Premier League games and cricket etc.?

Like most revamps in recent years, content seems to have been stripped out under the guise of an improved service. I noticed on Sky Text on Freeview the sport service is now just news headlines, with a pointer to the Sky Sports website instead - but I just assumed that was Sky removing valued content from Freeview.

It's been referred to as "Interactive News" on the ticker for the last few days, i.e. "Press Red for Interactive News."

I take it Nick Robinson wasn't available Wink

I'm surprised they asked Adam Bolton, from the BBC's rival news channel!

Here's a wikileak! Wink http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZm5cm0ZtL4

Confirmation from the Boulton and Co blog that Adam won't be doing Sunday Live in addition to his new show,
Quote:
It's almost the end of an era - just three more Sunday Lives to go before Adam rolls up his Sunday newspapers and heads off to present a new weekday show. I think he's done this show for the last sixteen years although I'm sure he said twenty to me the other day. One to check at 7am in the morning..

Presuming they continue to have a Sunday morning show, it will be interesting to see who takes over. Joey Jones? Tim Marshall? Or perhaps Colin Brazier now that the Live Desk will only be on for an hour a day?

Who remembers the old days before Adam started his Sunday show when they used to show a time shifted version of BBC1's Frost on Sunday?
