First proper look at the new Millbank set during pre-recorded interview shown on Sunday Live a few minutes ago. It looks fantastic and the newsroom appears a lot bigger than the previous one, certainly has more of a buzz and sense of activity about it than most of the presentation areas at Sky centre.

2:50 in the work mens ladders are still in the studio

If there were to big very large budget cuts to Sky News, does anyone have a feeling Millbank could be the then home to SkyNews. After switching to HD and having to cut on staff, but then spend on Millbank studios, that to be honest wouldn't be required if they just used the Osterly Studio. Theres also the Gerkin for Business.

So less in the SkyNews studio than ever and spreading costs to other sites or moving away from the Sky News Centre Confused

Does look very impressive. There do appear to be a few sound issues though - very echoey and almost as if some of it's being done down an ISDN line when I heard it the other day.

The only criticism I'd make is this: what's the point of making it look like Osterley? I 'get' that they didn't want to create what they termed the traditional Westminster studio, with Big Ben etc in the background. But I seriously doubt the average viewer would notice a programme being produced from Westminster over Osterley.

Perhaps that's the point. It just rather seems like they've created a replica studio, rather than being creative.

Does anyone else think of the pre 2005 sky news studio/newsroom when looking at this, albeit without the video wall?

I agree with you that while it looks impressive most viewers probably won't notice the difference. I guess perhaps there is a sense that presenting some shows from Westminster will allow them to have more guests on set talking face to face with a presenter but it hardly seems worth investing so much in a studio just for that purpose.

Judging by it's size it does seem likely that more programming than just Sunday Live will come from Westminster but which ones will be interesting to see. There does seem to have been a lot of personnel changes behind the scenes in recent months, perhaps there are plans for more extensive changes in the new year that Millbank will play a role in?

As mentioned above it does also have a bit of the pre-2005 feel in it because of the working newsroom atmosphere which is somewhat lacking on SN these days (albeit not during Sky News Today with Dermot.)

I do and I love it. Ever since the 2005 relunch the new set while looking impressive and big has been empty most of the time.
The best shot/desk position is for Sky News Today but it's used the least.

Will be interesting to see what shows move to the new set, maybe the Live Desk.
