I wonder were they not happy with how the Westminster set looked or if it was not functioning properly? They seem to be back using the static blue background now.

They seem to have only been using the new set on an evening. For interviews yesterday morning they used the blue background as well.

The had Darshini David at the new studio a couple of mornings ago.

Lisa Dowd referred to as entertainment correspondent on tonights Live at Five. Not sure whether or not she's taken up a new brief but I was expecting her to move down south following Tom Parmenter's (her husband) move to general news correspondent.

The Sky Sports News Podcast went behind the scenes at SSN this week and in it you can see what has become of the old Sky News Centre, the newswall is still there.

It's a shame the handheld mic wasn't working, seems like we were hearing everyone through his tie clip.....

I've noticed the Ski report is back, with weather presenters presenting from the news wall.

It certainly looks like it's the result of a sponsorship deal...most the resorts are still closed, with the presenters struggling for what to say!

They simply sell as much sponsorship as possible, in which case this means a few months for Insure and Go. Similar situation with ITV's Pollen Count which stretched into Autumn, when the threat from pollen had pretty much diminished.

Quite a communications feat with Dermot interviewing a rebel commander live from Burma using some sort of videophone.

Heard an interesting (though perhaps unlikely) thing on Radio 4 earlier - Robert Peston blogged that he has it on good authority that if Sky News proves a stumbling block to Rupert Murdoch's bid for full ownership of BSkyB, Sky News could be sold off in order to facilitate the buyout. One guest on PM surmised that they might end up just closing it instead!!

I think personally that would be the best thing to ever happen to Sky News - losing the Murdoch stain, that is. Not closing down. But as Robert says, it's highly unlikely it would happen while Rupert is in charge of News Corporation.

I guess the obvious benefit would be that Sky News would be free from suggestions that it is not editorially independent but in truth without BSkyB's financial backing the chances are the channel would be unviable.

Indeed to remove the Murdoch stain they would probably also have to change the name which would be disastrous.

I just don't see it working unless SN is bought by another huge media company who could sustain it's loss making. All just talk at this stage though and personally I think the News Corp deal will go through, ideally with some clause that could guarantee that Sky News' independence be maintained.

I can't see it continuing without the millions from BSkyB.

The thought of just having the BBC as a 24 news channel provider would be, to quote an oft used word, "chilling".

Interesting exchange on Twitter regarding Sky's weather forcast.

E. Gordon - Daybreak/Lorraine director
Quote:
I love Sky's comprehensive weather. The last report was about 15 seconds long - I'm sure the combined duration of the bumpers was longer!

.... reply from Lucy Verasamy
Quote:
thats because the sponsorship is more important than the forecast..I had 10seconds once.

The Guardian is also claiming that "Murdoch's team have proposed selling off Sky News to allay concerns about media dominance in the UK."
