Sky World News - is it actually any different from the normal Sky News and, if so, what content is different? (middle of the night for me.................................).

When I've seen it at 5am here and there the only major difference I notice is that they tend to focus a bit more on World Sport, Weather and the Newspapers, with those parts having a sting with the Sky News music playing inbetween them.

It's a bit different than watching BBC World News at such an ungodly hour.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm a bit puzzled why Sky News is attempting to enter the relatively small Middle Eastern market, while completely ignoring the much larger Continental European market in its own backyard -- a market where it already has fairly decent distribution, but where its parochial nature ("Breaking News: A man stabbed in London!") prevents it from becoming a significant player.

Yes, big countries such as France, Italy, Germany, and Spain have their own 24-hour news channels in their own language, but smaller countries either have none at all, or perhaps some bare-bones service with limited resources.

And while some large countries tend to resist the notion of English as the continent's lingua franca , urban residents of smaller countries, from Sweden to Slovenia, mostly understand English. They represent a perfect market for a pan-European news channel covering news from around Europe -- with more flair than EuroNews, which tends to be terribly dull.

Europe is increasingly integrated and interconnected, yet there is not a single pan-European news channel comparable to globally oriented services such as BBC World and CNN International. And establishing a version of Sky News for Continental Europe -- a huge potential market of mobile, cosmopolitan English-speakers -- would be significantly cheaper than launching such a service from scratch.

Money. Look at the amoint of advertising from the Middle East compared to the rest of the world on any global news channel

Also Sky don't really care about catering international audiences - it's just a way to try and make a bit of money from the overnight slot which sees reduced UK viewers. Since CET timezone countries aren't likely to be watching TV much before 5amUK, it makes sense to target countries further east to enable the World News service to start earlier in the night and therefore to attract overseas advertising for a longer time period

I use to watch Sky World News and Business Report before work last year and they would cover stories from Africa, cross live to South Africa's stock exchange. It's ashame they don't do something similar during the day.

This has probably been asked time and time again but why don't Sky News use Sky News Australia. They don't ever seem to cross live to them, show any programmes or reports, even acknowledge them

The first business update of the day at 9:40am weekdays crosses live to Sky News Australia for news on the markets over there. Then again at 1:40pm they cross to Fox Business in the U.S. Both times during The Live Desk programme.

Sky's assessment of Sky News' performance in the last quarter,
Quote:
Sky News HD, Europe’s first HD news channel, launched on 6 May 2010, to coincide with
the General Election. A total of 20 million viewers across the UK tuned in to watch Sky
News during the quarter, up 15% year on year. The Sky News Leaders’ Debate, broadcast
live from Bristol on 22 April, attracted Sky News’ highest ever audience, reaching 6.5

Interesting interview with Sky boss Jeremy Darroch on Jeff Randall Live. He told Jeff that as long as he is CEO, Sky News will maintain it's editorial independence.

Slightly odd that they have put it up as a story on their website, usually they avoid the Fox News topic. Apologies for the huge link.

Sky News have a reporter that is claiming to be at the Clinton daughters wedding but she is clearly in front of a green screen. there is sunlight across everything apart from her and there is just something not right about the picture.

Are you sure? I doubt she is lying.

Don't reporters usually have a cover from the sun?
