Can someone confirm what I believe to be seeing on SkyNews - no safe areas?! or is it my tv playing up?

Can't blame them. Given that the product they are sponsoring is fundamentally different to what it was previously.

Qatar Airways appears to only be sponsoring Sunrise weather forecasts now.

On what specifically? At 15:00, Sky News SD had normal graphics with the usual safe areas. If you are talking about Sky News HD then I don't believe that ever has graphic safe areas, although of course the video itself will have the same safe areas as SD.
They only launched a new voice over within the last few days. It said 'Weather Updates' instead of 'Sky News Weather'.

does anyone know what system they are using for the SD/HD channel are they just using metadata and then the respective HD/SD graphics software is rendering in its own style if you know what I mean like the World Cup, where the match stats and scoreboard are fed from HBS but the BBC can then have it in their own style?
I wonder if Sky Sports News HD will be similar?

I expect SSN HD will probably use one set of GFX which will just look slightly fuzzier to us peasants.

I've never heard it before but they use fantastic SkyNews Music for SkyNews Sportsline - Much more up beat than the General News version they now used understandably of course.
