BBC News is more their enemy The Daily Mail than The Independent. BBC World News could be The Independent!

Sky News really has gone down hill. Too many fancy graphics, sound effects and sets. Surely its about real news not Peter Andre and John Terry!? They jut repeat everything and go live to locations, there is no depth to any of the stories.

Have a read of the last few pages on the BBC News Channel thread - you'll soon see that the definition of a good news channel is how the background looks, whether the presenters stand to present, and the combination of presenters and programme titles used throughout the day rather than the quality and depth of the reporting. I understand there is a need to cover what some - including me - call non-news, like John Terry and Peter Andre, but I hate sitting through a news bulletin or watching a news channel and finding them glamourising such fluffy nonsense. I want real news told to me in an accessible manner - not full of stats, not dumbed down either.

Their domestic Politics and Business coverage is still the best, even if there is a strong pro-tory spin on it all.

If there's a strong pro-Tory spin on their politics coverage, then it's not the best. Signs of brilliant political news coverage are impartiality, clarity and conciseness. If there's even a hint of favouring the policies of a certain party, then the credibility flies out of the window.

And if we're talking about news services on TV and print - BBC historically was aimed at the FT type of audience (not sure if that's changed), whilst ITV has always been The Times/Daily Telegraph/Daily Mail.

Indeed isn't ITV News 20% the Daily Mail!

Well let's just address some of those points, shall we?

Quote:
Kay asked the questions that were demanded by the occasion

Not true, her questioning became inappropriate.

Quote:
None of this was new to Peter or to the viewer.

False. He didn't know what the clip contained, even if it had aired previously.

Quote:
As soon as it became clear that Peter was uncomfortable with the line of questioning, Kay attempted to change the subject.

False, he clearly became uncomfortable and certainly highly emotive when she first raised the question. She then returned to it later, therefore no attempt was made to change the subject until he specifically stated "can we talk about something else please?" That was how plain he had to be, because she just wasn't getting it.

The least surprising part of the blog post:

Quote:
Any suggestion that Kay’s future is under threat at Sky News is absolute nonsense – just wrong.

Didn't doubt that for a second. If she can survive throttling a photographer and the incredibly crass question she put to the wife of the serial killer, then it was obvious no action would be taken here either.

Well done though John. You're doing a fab job of running the channel into the ground.

He was clearly upset after seeing that clip and then made reference to it again once Burley had asked a few questions. Ok her questions might not have helped, but he was upset over the clip not what Burley was asking. He quite clearly references the clip shown to him when upset, but ofcourse people will spin it whichever way they want because : they love Peter, they hate Sky News, they hate Kay Burley

I don't hate Sky News and I certainly don't love Peter. Stop generalising to suit your agenda.

For what it's worth I don't condone some of the things that are being written about Kay on the nearly 6,000 strong Facebook group. Some pretty harsh and unnecessary stuff on there.

I'd just prefer to have someone more professional (and likeable) presenting Afternoon Live. As simple as that.

What absolutely must happen though, is this increasing celebrity focus MUST stop. It's really bringing the integrity of the channel down.

Got in touch with Sky News today and the message was that they believe Sky should cover ALL stories, from foreign affairs to showbiz, they claim its all news. I don't agree, but it isn't gonna change.
