Who gave SKY News news channel of the year? did you vote did you get the oppertunity? Are you on the select Board of the Royal Television Society?

And as we all know, those media types who vote on such things are *all* right-wingers.

There seems to be about 3 organisations who award channels of the year. The RTS, BAFTA and some mysterious in house broadcasting organisation. If any one has any details of who sits on these panels do tell.

Pardon 'Chav News'?

I thought that was the ITV NC.

How can you say SKY news is 'chav news', what do you watch then?
Bet its BBC News 24, oh how last century!

Much better than watching Murdochs right wing facist view of the world - I prefere to get the most unbiased news available rather than his American rules the world rubbish. Sky news is for chavs and Sun readers - if it is possible to read the Sun.

Before you go on a rant at me you should really learn to spell, (American rule the world)

And yes it is possible to read the Sun, like most newspapers they have things called w...o...r...d...s in them. Are you illiterate?

I wonder are, you the George Galloway of this forum? Why are scared of Americans?

Well I've got a quote for you;

'Put up or..shut up!'

And as for chavs, I doubt they would even know what politics is, so why then has 'Sunday Live' been running for 11 years.

Do I take it that you accept that Murdoch is a citizen of the USA now? I think branding people American devalues the rest of the continent so apologies for any non US citizen there.
If there was a typo in my reply then apologies for that too.
Sky News exists for one reason only and that is for Murdoch and his power mad board to influence the world in order to make money. Blair is so far up his bottom it is vile. Sky News would never have exposed the sexing up story and preferes tabloid television. Its dragged 24 hour TV news down with it across all channels as they compete to be first and wrong with the facts.
Put up or shut up is a sound bite and hardly intellectual. What has George Galloway got to do with this forum? He has his own agenda. The Sun has words, this is true, usually in short sound bite sentences, easy to grasp and biggoted in its reflection of life.
If you want to debate the present American administration then do a bit of digging and you will be shocked at what they represent and how they influence this country.
News international's reputation is an interesting one pity no one has the guts to expose it.
Either you are very young, or have never worked in the industry. Maybe you could look at the bigger picture, explore some facts do some journalism, but please don't rely on Sky News for your view on the world.

I am shocked that you haven't answered my question, are you illiterate? Or are you like a fair majority of people in this country Sun readers? Perhaps with your amazing (note the sarcasm) industry experience you could tell me why the Sun is the biggest selling newspaper, and perhaps why so many people worry about what it says.
I am glad to see you admit it has words, you can't be blind as I previously thought. I know a lot about the American administration, I have family that live across the 'pond' and i know how they influence this country, if you would like to debate this I'm ready and waiting.
I know a lot about politics for a 15 year old, it is the result of being dragged around various conferences, rallies etc as a young child.

Yes I am too young to work in the 'industry' as you put it, but I have grown up with media, my dad is a journalist, my mother also has been a journalist but is today in marketing and advertising and my older brother is a trainee at the BBC ( go on take a guess, yess you got it.........journalism).

As for my experience I run my schools radio and 'tv' network, with myself and my deputy controlling news and current affairs output, so if yuo want to talk about journalism, I can do that too.

After berating the other fella for a typo earlier, I hope you are going to apologise for your own.

I'll pitch in that the Sun is popular because it is a very good newspaper - but - it is hardly a serious newspaper, is it? The establishment only care what it says because of the sheer amount of people that read it.

Yes, it is bigoted, but then some would say it is only giving people what they want and it is a reflection of society in this country. Discuss.

Having tried to have a reasonable discussion I'll call it a day.

I have yet to be convinced by any argument that Rupert Murdoch is this big evil guy that people say he is. To be honest it always comes across as being sour grapes at someone who has built up a succesful company and, yes, made a hell of a lot of money. Do you seriously think that when Rupert first set out doing whatever he did first, he thought "I know, I'm going to start a company that will manipulate the world's media"? It's utter balls, he has built up a succesful company and now people make up all sorts to try and knock him. It's exactly the same with Bill Gates.

The options available to you are quite simple - if you don't like it, don't read or watch it.

I'm sure he didn't at the outset, but power corrupts (apparently).

I can totally see your point, Phil, and I don't really spend my time these days knocking him because it's pretty pointless. But, you have to see it from the other side and respect the views of people who are basically scared of someone who - as was proved with Neil Kinnock - have the ability to influence elections.

My personal gripe is that, although Sky Sports' coverage is very, very good, I don't like the fact they hold a football monopoly. People often say people can outbid them for the coverage, but to be honest, who's got £1.1bn knocking around and who's going to take the risk of Sky pulling the dirty on them ... **** EPG number, anyone? Extortionate carriage deals? You all know what they're like.

Yeah, I agree. Unless anyone knows Rupert Murdoch personally maybe they should refrain from judging him. The same could be said for any successful business man/woman. Look at Bill Gates, look at how Walt Disney has influenced media/film etc, as well as popular culture. Disney's influence is vast, not only in film, but tv as they own ESPN, ABC and the Disney Channel network, to name a few. So they can extend their own influence across their assets.

And what they all have in common is that they are US corporations pushing to dominate world culture and opinions. I don't have a problem with competition or diversity but the media & culture is almost dominated by a bunch of US business people. We now have a Attourney general not Lord chancellor, this morning it was Park rangers in Birmingham - not forgetting Mickey Mouse as Prime Minister or the way he does business president Blair.
Why don't we just adopt the same law as the US. In our case Only European Union citizens can own media organisations. Seems fair.
