What does that work include, changing the newswall only or some other stuff too?

I would presume cameras, the gallery and things like that. I have my doubts about whether they would change the newswall as I suspect it would be very expensive and the wall is only some 4 or so years old.

And upgrading the gallery isn't? There's not much point upgrading your entire production equipment to HD, just to have an unusable background because all the pixels are clearly visible. The costs of upgrading the set where required will be part of the project.

It remains to be seen if the newswall would require replacement in order to be used in HD, and I doubt the cost of doing so will not be a suitable reason for not doing it. If it looks fine in HD it will be left as if, if not, it'll be replaced.

As it's a new studio building, the expensive work of recabling everything probably won't be needed. With a bit of luck they may only need to replace the cameras, CCUs, a few monitors and bits of set.

Then there's the difficult job of getting everyone in the newsroom part of the studio to keep their desks tidy...

Testing that new Live Desk backdrop again today during the ads on AL.

The weather graphics keep crashing. Second time in the space of a week just now, freezing up while Isobel Lang was mid-forecast. Same thing happened to Jo Wheeler a few days ago, eventually going black behind her. Being the consummate professionals they are, they weren't phased.

Put The Telly On
About 10 mins ago, Kay Burley interviewed somebody about the Swine Flu outbreak and how effective tamiflu in light of the death of a 6 year old girl. Kay then decided to conclude the interview by saying "oh hahaha so we should all stay indoors and wrap up and watch Afternoon Live! haahaha!"

She's incredible, she really is. Rolling Eyes

Nice background for the single shots of Colin.

Also, Colin now has a Sky News Blog, "Family Affairs". http://blogs.news.sky.com/familyaffairs

Oh no, they aint screwed the Live Desk up have they? Is it all different camera angles from the island?

Is it a new background or the usual newswall one?

Business news from the 'Sunrise' big screen.

I was watching on a not-perfectly-set-up Freeview TV, but it seemed to be way too saturated. Like I say, it could have just been the TV I saw it on.

If they could get it looking right, I'm sure the weather would look better from the screen too. I can't see the weather carrying on as it does at the moment once we get into the world of HD.

Im not too keen on the new Live Desk set up,it seems very messy.I thought the business and the online update both looked terrible from the Sunrise screen, why did they feel the need to change what was a perfectly good set up?
