BBC News Channel boss saying on Twitter that his channel got twice the audience of Sky on the day of the riots in London in addition to 0.5 million online.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's 50% more viewers - not twice the audience.

"Thanking the teams - BBC News Channel got very big audience yesterday - 50% higher than Sky...and 0.5m people also watched live on website.."

Oh sorry,should have spotted that!

Leaving Steve's diabetic pump thing aside, does anyone know why there are 3 screens in the desk all showing the report being played out? Presumably one or two of these get switched to live events or the report coming up?

Yes indeed, the monitors on the presenters desk can be set to different things. At Sky News I believe one monitor is 'programme off air' I.e. what we see at home, one is gallery output I.e. what is leaving the vision mixer; so when the channel goes to break for example presenters can still see what is cut to line from the mixing desk, the other is a switchable monitor I.e. to keep an eye on a live feed e.g. live shots from Italy, or during the sports belt on a weekend Sky Sports 1 output to keep an eye on scores. Although the talent have access to the wires its also useful to keep an eye on things like Sky Sports channels or the competition to see what is going on.

It would appear that Sky News have recruited another business presenter/reporter- Nina de Roy formerly of Bloomberg is doing the business updates today.

It would appear those massive SKY news screens at train stations in the UK have arrived in Ireland. Passing through Pearse St. Dart station today, I noticed a massive Sky News screen, the weather was for London. I've seen one, not turned on, in Connolly Station too. Interesting seeing Sky News providing the news to Ireland. Would have thought it would have been 3news or RTE at least.

Matt Smith doing a good job on a busy night with news breaking all over the place, considering he is normally only a showbiz correspondent.
