I wonder if it's significant that the desk is still on the.. umm.. revolving platform thing. Wonder what the chances of it being turned in a different direction for, say, Live at Five.

The new desk has been designed specifically to rotate a lot more than the previous one was intended to, with the idea of offering a broader range of shots of the studios for different shows.

Yep, Live at Five and News at Ten will have the gallery/ingest for the backdrop.

Glad to hear that, the backdrop behind Dermot has the potential to get rather boring.

That's great.

I love the backdrop behind Dermoth, it's symmetrical and nice especially those 2 screens in the middle.

Real newsroom backdrops never get boring to me, only fake ones and black gallery can.

That's really good to hear. The studio looks great, and I like the idea of the different programmes throughout the day all making use of the studio in a different way.

Hi,

Looking at the Sky New today caps by Stuart, there looks like there is a piece of red carpet to the left.

Is this another presentation area in addition to the main desk, island and the Sunrise set?

Sky News have shown how much further ahead they are on presentation and set building than BBC News. Unfortunately we have to wait until the BBC News' new state of the art news centre is finished being built at Broadcasting House (in 2011) before we get a decent sized studio/set and a real news room shot again, on the BBC News channel. BBC News is in a bit of a lul at the moment really - which is sad. Still, there is nothing stopping the BBC News channel putting a live shot of the news centre on their BARCO screens.

Do kindly stop bollocking on about the BBC's screens (or indeed future plans for screens), particularly in this thread, not only because the relevance is so minute, but because there are even fewer people here (if that's possible) then in the general forum who give a toss about your little vendetta against the BBC's screens and their usage of them.

Superb studio! A much needed refresh, looks great. Shame they didn't use the newswall graphic for any kind of new title sequence. But as I said, no musical/major graphical changes were due, the refresh was all about tweaking the studio to the current format and discourse structure of the channel and its programmes.

My guess is that ''the island'' will be used for Kay's show and that they are gonna use the newsroom as the background.

I also wonder about that red carpet. Are the stairs and the balcony gone?

Also is the table at the top of the newswall catwalk gone??

I was led to believe the island itself is movable - so can be positioned closer to (or further away from) the newswall area if required. Whether this is the case in the finished product, I'm not sure...

Mini summary of the main stories in the papers during the Live Desk AM - is that new or have they been doing this since the morning edition started?

They did it yesterday

I cant figure out where the Sunrise set is in relation to the main set. It looks very self contained
