Why is Sky News able to start their election programme at 9 o'clock, an hour before the polls close of the BBC isn't?

Theres nothing to say that the bbc can't start at 9 but there is very little point to it as reporting is limited until 10.

Sky typically use the first hour to map out their coverage for the evening ahead... which correspondent is where, introduce Martin in his virtual house of commons and so on...

I seem to remember Boulton chatting to guests last time about the campaign to fill out hour. Sky should wait until the polls are closed altogether in my view.

Apologies if this has been addressed before but will Sky's election night programme be anchored from the news centre then or will it have a dedicated studio?

"On election night, Sky News’ results programme Decision Time from 2100, in HD on channel 517, will provide a ground-breaking alternative to conventional studio-anchored election night programming. Sky News presenters Kay Burley, Jeremy Thompson and Anna Botting will be fronting the coverage from locations across the UK – with Eamonn Holmes and Dermot Murnaghan taking over as the counts finish and the story gravitates towards Westminster.

Adam Boulton will run the results operation from the Sky News Centre and conduct the major interviews while Kay, Jeremy and Anna will track Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg respectively as this tightest of contests is played out."

Not sure if it’s already been stated in the thread, but I believe that Sky News SD will remain largely the same as before, everything in the safe areas, two line straps, no side panels, etc but with the new style of the HD graphics (new font, darker red, different animations).

The dubbing was very poor yesterday, but BBC Breakfast was bad as well yesterday.
It would be a shame to see the SD stay relatively the same - I think it should be as close to the HD one as possible with the limited pixel technology, but I guess it is an incentive to buy a Sky+HD box...

Err - for who? 'Ooh, I'd better get a Sky+HD box, I hear the headline straps are slightly better...'

It may only be an example but that cap shows how pointless that sidebar will actually be. They're rarely of interest when they cross to shots of just one front door waiting for something to happen, never mind four!

It's an incentive because it makes you think that the coverage is better. That the news is more detailed and I'm sure that the presenters will be advertising it a lot.
