I'm presuming that the blue lights alongside the logo are the lights in the studio behind the presenters? Does that mean we'll be seeing more of them then...
Well I am not a fan of the blue glass "environment". It seems visually quite harsh and busy. Can anyone capture the HD version in HD. Just so we can see all the detail.
I hope this style is only reserved for the "ident", and not for all the full-screen graphics. I also hope the studio colouring and lighting is made to match as the studio is quite light and has a different shade of blue, and this would stand out compared to the new newswall graphic and this "ident".

The HD version of the ident isn't very good quality on Anytime - it looks like a standard definition version (in fact it most probably is).

I see, and funnily I am not surprised...
I reckon there were many un-expected problems with their debate coverage in HD, hence their plans for all these one-off HD broadcasts have been dropped. Hopefully it will be ready before Election Night, and the studio gets all its updates and tweaks.
Speaking of Election Night, will Sky be coming from a purpose built set/studio or are they hoping to do it all from Sky Centre. So far the centre hasn't been used for a General Election night.
I for one really like the new 'glass' blue effect. Its about time Sky News had a strong set of idents again and while it's unlikely anything will ever top the globe, I think this look could be the best attempt they have had at replacing it. Also nice to see them go with blue and a darker red as the main colours, rather than the red that has been so prominent recently, always favored the 'blue' Sky News look and the current look is a bit too tabloidy.
I think Sky have been superb this election campaign and indeed with the ash story, I really hope the HD launch and the new look will continue with the progress that has been made in recent months. These are good times for Sky News.
Is anyone else slightly worried that a lot of the content on the preview loop appears to be 25p not 50i? Personally I find the "film look" of 25p a bit too "drama" for news reports - and it also gives a less realistic motion portrayal.
Hope this is just because the reports are from long documentaries, where 25p could be used for artistic reasons (though I still don't like it)...
It's also noticable that the HD picture quality - both from the leaders debate and the preview loop - is lower than that of other Sky outlets (which I guess is to be expected). More noticeable compression artefacts, and the Kay Burley OB from the leader debate had pretty poor quality colour and colour matching.
I've just watched Peter Sharp's Beijing segment on Anytime. Like all the others, the HD picture quality is nothing short of stunning. It included the report that Peter sent from Mongolia during the 'big freeze' earlier this year, so they've been working in HD for a few months now.
I do agree about the colour matching in the Debate OB.

I wasn't talking about the content available on Anytime - that comes via a different route and a different set of transponders to the EPG channels usually. I was talking about the broadcasts on 517. The source material may be the same - but the compression probably isn't.
