One of the things on the preview loop is a look at how they set up the studio at the Gherkin. Lots of interesting stuff, showing how they built the studio and did their first rehearsals (with Randall originally sitting where the guests now sit) and setting up the remote controlled cameras to try and get the best shots. The entire studio is controlled from the gallery back in Osterley.

As far as picture quality goes, it's looking like one of the highest quality HD channels.

Sky News HD Promo showing a Sky News HD DOG which appears to have been put onto what they're showing, with a smaller version in the top-right corner. On another note, the split screen that's being used on HD looks lovely.

I'm guessing that's the bit with Obama's inauguration, where they've got a larger version of the new logo covering up the original Sky News HD DOG from the broadcast last year. It just goes to show how much smaller and into the corner of the screen the new DOG is.

Must be pretty long, its always been different stuff when I have tuned to it.

Hopefully the quality of the picture will be maintained when the channel launches fully.

Several hours, no idea how many. It seems to include the whole of the leaders debate, and many of the segments are a good 15-30 minutes long.

That's what I thought as well.

I was wondering how much watching I had to do to see it all. Pathfinders programme is on at the mo...

According to the EPG, the 11pm bulletin is now known as "Sky News At 11." The newsreaders often refer to it as this at the TOTH anyway, even though it's proper title is (or was) Sky News Tonight.

Is anyone else slightly worried that a lot of the content on the preview loop appears to be 25p not 50i? Personally I find the "film look" of 25p a bit too "drama" for news reports - and it also gives a less realistic motion portrayal.

Hope this is just because the reports are from long documentaries, where 25p could be used for artistic reasons (though I still don't like it)...

It's also noticable that the HD picture quality - both from the leaders debate and the preview loop - is lower than that of other Sky outlets (which I guess is to be expected). More noticeable compression artefacts, and the Kay Burley OB from the leader debate had pretty poor quality colour and colour matching.

Does anyone know if a whole new music package is being produced for the new look and HD? It's well overdue Wink

Quite worrying that the first bit of rolling-news coverage broadcast on the HD channel was so badly put together on a technical (colour balances & racking in general, timings & delays) and production level (cutting to random shots of the building, kay burley's interview "skills").
