I guess it’s probably something to do with Sky not usually using the studio at the Gherkin on Friday but perhaps it’s also an effort to see if this stops them reading the autocue over each other. It’s a great show but there were some major teething issues as neither are natural presenters and the dual format posed a problem in that regard.
Just wondering, re. the main news set, when did they do away with the fins changing colour according to the time of day, and turning red for breaking news?
Did the SD and HD channels use the same graphics? I know in SD we had the new logo, and straps scrolling in, but was this the same on Sky News HD, as I personally hated the SD graphics, under the thinking that they seemed like they were made on PowerPoint. To me they seemed very ameteur.
If you have Sky Anytime but not HD then you can get a taste of the HD graphics as the version of the Sky News Leaders Debate on Sky Anytime also uses them. I don't think it is quite the same as the broadcast version as the straps with the questions on only appear when the person first asks the question and isn't left on like it was on the SD version and I assume the HD version last night.

I must have missed their demise
It was when the set was overhauled early last year, when the new desk, Sunrise set etc. was introduced.
Sky News HD Promo showing a Sky News HD DOG which appears to have been put onto what they're showing, with a smaller version in the top-right corner. On another note, the split screen that's being used on HD looks lovely.
The HD previews are really impressive. The picture quality is fantastic and all the reports and behind the scenes stuff is fascinating. Seeing the Greek riots in HD really gave a sense of the drama and tension on the ground. It is great to see them make an effort to get HD pictures from their correspondents around the globe, not just in the UK. Dare I say the HD channel with its previews is more watchable than the main channel with the actual news at the moment!

Agree. I hope the bods at BBC/ITV are watching, so they can see how HD should be done.
All the naysayers who say 'What's the point of Sky News HD, just the studio stuff will be in HD?", are in for a shock.
The resources they're putting in, more than justifies it being a pay channel.

Well obviously on their promo loop they are going to showcase genuine HD reports - but although they may have equipped their own bureaus with HD cameras etc., the vast majority of international breaking news will likely still be SD, and in many cases probably still 4:3.
Following the end of the coverage for the evening, Sky News HD moved to show a looping preview tape, this will continue until Sky News HD is launched in full on the evening of 6 May, to coincide with the coverage of the results for the 2010 General Election.

The preview loop showing on the channel has superb HD quality compared with BBC HD. It looks like that the channel will launch May 6th.
