I know sky news gets a lot of stick at times, but have to say these last couple of weeks with their coverage of both the elections and today's air traffic problems have been brilliant. Martin Stanfords also just been using the touch screen to demonstrate the problems further.

Always find it amazing how big stories come in two's. No doubt Sky have been planning today for weeks if not months and now it's fallen to second on the agenda due to this major breaking story.

I think they have reacted well, JT sent to Manchester Airport & Colin Brazier sent to Heathrow. Good input from David Learmount & Eric Moody who flew through volcanic ash himself in 1982

I really cannot fault Sky's coverage of this Debate/Volcano story clash. Having Jeremy diverted from Granada to the airport was a great idea, and having Colin Brazier in Heathrow rather than Sky Centre is good too. Martin and Charlotte seem to be doing the Newswall and Interactive Screen in the studios well too. Smile

Totally agree - faultless!

This is an historic event in itself. I can't recall UK airspace being closed in recent times. In fact, I can only ever recall London airspace being closed on 9/11.

Is the TOTH a generic 'This is Sky News' or something like 'This is Debate Day on Sky News, with Jeremy Thompson in Manchester, and Colin Brasier in London', I suspect they've axed this at the moment.

Hm, I don't see why they do this when they're on location, but they always seem to stop using the CA

Sky News at its absolute best today, always great having JT on location, which seems more of a rarity these days, adds a sense of importance to a big story. Also great to see Martin involved.

Their coverage has been second to none and well balanced between the Election/Airport issues. Sky News way ahead of the BBC News channel - yet again!

Alistair Stewart was just interviewed on Sky News.

Adam Boulton: "Joining me now is the man who will chair the first debate, ITV News' Alistair Stewart".
Alistair Stewart: "Joining me now is the man who will chair the second debate. Dimbleby must be around here somewhere too".

EDIT : And they just went to ads in the middle of the interview. Opps.

The wonders of automation. Either that or someone at Sky was bored listening to Alistair - they just cut him off mid flow for adverts!

The coverage has been great today. The only moan I have, and I am sure I'll get plenty of replies disagreeing, is that this morning on sunrise from 7am until 7:20 we had charlotte repeating the little information we had regarding the closure of UK airspace. basically repeating the simple fact of well it's a cloud and there's nothing we can do about it. Then Eamonn gave us about 5 minutes of other news (suprisingly not giving much coverage to the election), we then had the weather and then back to charlotte with the same pointless repeat.

I love Sky and especially Sunrise but I just feel it was a bit pointles to devote 20 minutes of news to it, especially since, even though it was BREAKING NEWS (which sky love), there was nothing more to report, fair enough every 15 minutes give an update on which airports are closed but don't give us a 20 minute loop of cloud footage.

Sorry for the little rant. surely someone agrees?
