Watching Richard Littlejohn on QT tonight it's hard to believe this man was once a Sky News presenter!

Joey Jones on Sky news reported this as George Osborne being ganged up on. This seems a tad emotive, possibly to elicit sympathy and support to the Tories?

Possibly, just possibly, he said it because it was true. Darling and Cable did gang up on Osborne, and Cable was allowed to get away with murder, being hardly challenged by the moderator, unlike Osborne.

And it does go against what a lot of twitter viewers were saying, myself included. But it could be me being anti-conservatives. But I am not the only one noticing this creeping bias, and my viewership of Sky News has decreased since I started noticing these changes, and with Tory policy so pro BSkyB and Murdoch, and anti-BBC as is Rupert Murdoch, and BSkyB. It is fair to look at this with a sceptical eye.

Tend to agree with you on this. It certainly was not noticeable a few years ago and I don't think Sky's political team are any better/worse than those at the BBC or ITN for explicit bias, but there have been several occasions recently when I've been watching and thought 'that is horribly, horribly pro-Tory'.

I think creeping bias is a very good way of describing it.

The Jeff Randall slot is now essentially used as a tool to drag on business people to slag off the Government/public sector. Similarly, the other night it was used as an opportunity for BSkyB to slag off Ofcom, regardless of Randall's perceived hard line. Is this really impartiality?

On their website this week there was a headline saying 'Labour's death tax postponed'. That's a line straight out of Tory Campaign HQ and shouldn't be used anywhere other than in the Daily Express.

I think broadly their political team is very solid but there has been an identifiable shift in the coverage towards the Tories more recently. Can't account for why, and it may not be purposeful, but it is definitely there and clearly I'm not the only one who has noticed.

No worse, than the Beeb being pretty 'pro labour'. Have seen the Beeb quite 'Labourish' recently, and it wasn't just the fact that they showed a Gordon Brown press briefing in full and later on only showed 8 minutes of Cameron's - whether or not they needed to go to the lunchtime news, it was still cut off in mid flow and this was a known about event and was discussed in the News channel forum.

Worzel, I really think you miss the point some times. Yes, broadcasters should try to be as unbiased as possible and give each party the opportunities and same amount of time on air as each other, but not to the extent you talk about.

If Gordon Brown's conference had been just before a simulcast they were required to produce (for BBC 1s sake) they would have cut him off and gone to the rest of the news. Equally if David Cameron's speech hadn't been before the simulcast they would have kept with it. This isn't BBC bias, this is the BBC having to take many variables and factors into their reporting. Bias would be the BBC consistently focusing on Labour policies and side-lining the Tories'. Bias would be the BBC not reporting the Conservatives at all, or reporting more positively on the Labour party without merit.

It really does become quite pedantic when people make comments like that. And trust me, the Conservative party gets more than enough coverage on the BBC.

After all the business with the government versus the BBC on the "dodgy dossier" story, it's a bit hard to see a pro-government stance, but there may be a slight anti-conservative stance from them. It shouldn't be so, but if there was a potential political party, who would be quite happy to destroy you, its hard not to understand.

But in the specific case you mentioned, it was the Prime Minister making a speech, compared to an MP giving a speech. Plus the timing coinciding with the One O'Clock News would have something to say on that also.

They certainly are being very coy over the launch date, from the Sunrise blog
Quote:
As we gear up for one of the most closely fought General Elections in years we will be bringing you full coverage of the campaign throughout the week on Sunrise as the parties battle it out for your vote.
As we head into summer viewers will also be able to get Sunrise in high definition when Sky News launches in HD.

Must say it would be quite poor if they weren't ready in the next few weeks, they have been planning since June. I'd still say we are odds on for a Tuesday launch but I feel less certain than I did this morning.

I remember watching that last year, it was very weird how he just ended the interview when he mentioned Jeremy Kyle.
Just seen the main news desk with all the lights turned off as the TOTH camera zoomed in on Mark Longhurst.
Doesn't look like there'll be much action on that desk for a while.

He handled it very well. Even if he is a raving Tory.

I guess it takes a while to switch the lights back on...

Yesterday's AL TOTH was very odd. Last headline, then we had Anna Jones looking down with the camera she reads from staring at her, no pan. Then, the music abruptly stopped just before the Announcer finished telling us we were watching Afternoon Live.
