Any news on when the new graphics/HD service is going live?

On the HD front, I've been told that there will NOT be any changes made to the newswall. They don't believe there will be any issues with blurring or with the dividing lines being clearer.

Strange, but it must have looked OK when they did the HD tests a while back. Is the newswall HD though? As in, can it show HD graphics and images?

The day the general election is announced. I hear they'll be in a temp studio in the coming weeks.

The gallery is HD ready now so why would they need to be in a temp studio? Is there studio changes coming?

Not as far as I know, the main gallery and Studio A will rehearse the HD launch and election stuff and another gallery will run Studio B and keep the current sky news on air until the election is called and they'll switch back to normal. Not 100% on this - but I hear on the grapevine.

Wow certainly would be impressive if it is the case that they are ready to go once an election is called, especially with the logistics of getting a channel placed on the EPG etc. I imagine that the days election's are announced are busy enough without having to launch a completely new look and channel at the same time, would be some feat.

Providing that the election is May 6, then the announcement that the election has been called will be in the first or second week of next month, so that there can be a week or so to clear outstanding parliamentary business before Parliament is dissolved.

It could be that slightly before then, say in the last week of this month, Sky News HD appears on the EPG, but broadcasting an upconverted version of the SD channel until the election is offically called and Sky News HD proper launches.

Wasn't there a rumour the election may have been called over the weekend just gone - what would have happened then?

Thinking about it I suppose the election graphics etc. have all been done in whatever new style they will be using from the HD launch, so its probably more practical from that point of view rather than having 2 sets of election graphics, one in the current style, one in new look etc.

Shocked I'm stunned she felt the need to write that. She might as well endorse the Labour Party and jump ship to be a 'down to earth' MP herself!
