MSNBC have this type of set up. During daytime hours (9am-4pm) all programmes have a side bar with weather, business and news headlines. However all prime time programmes and Morning Joe have full 16:9.

OT slightly but MSNBC's graphics are really nice. Very un-American.

Fox News used to use an 'hd wing' while they were upgrading their dayside studios to HD. Like MSNBC, however, I don't think it ever appeared during Fox & Friends or primetime.

Some suggestions today that 'Picnic' which would see Sky News along with Sky Sports News and Sky 3 removed from Freeview to make way for a DTT service from Sky may be back on the agenda. This article suggests that while Ofcom may rule against Sky on the issue of wholesaling the channels, they may allow them to go ahead with launching 'Picnic'.

Rather than opposing Project Canvas, Sky would be better off supporting it as a way of getting their own content on Freeview on a pay-per-view basis (or a subscription on-demand service), which would surely be more viable than a pay-service which makes their 1990 service look advanced!

MSNBC & Fox News don't have those side bars anymore. MSNBC got rid of them a few months ago & Fox News got rid of them, when they went to a 16:9 only feed in September '09.

Pleased to see that Joey Jones has been nominated for RTS specialist journalist of the year. Very well deserved indeed. He appears to have carved out a distinct niche as a specialist on analysing political events and speeches, including PMQs. Not an easy skill.
