1) The ITV1 debate will end up on a non-football night, and/or a non-Corrie night. Which realistically means it's destined for a Sunday night slot.

Surely a Tuesday night would be ideal?

Depends, though Digital Spy seems to suggest a three way simulcast is going to happen and that the football apparently inconveniences Sky, even though the debate would be on Sky News and not Sky Sports.

Each broadcaster's 90-minute programme would be run at peak time, with Wednesday the most likely scheduling day under current plans.

As polling for the election is widely believed to be locked down for May 6, the debates would therefore run on April 14 on ITV, April 21 for Sky and April 28 for the BBC.

However, Sky and the BBC's debate programmes would clash with the two-legged Champions League semi-final potentially featuring involvement from Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Sky and ITV also plan to televise the games.

Switching the debates to Tuesday would equally cause problems as both semi-final clashes alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays for each week.

Scheduling the debates is further complicated because the outcome of English clubs in the quarter-finals will not be known until April 6, giving limited time for planning or promotion.

Holding the debates on a Thursday would equally clash with the Europa League semi-finals, with English teams Liverpool, Everton and Fulham all still in contention.

As Friday and Saturday prime time slots are unfeasible and unsuitable, that leaves just Sunday and Monday left for ITV and Sky to work with.

I think Tuesday could be the best night still. It's always going to be a compromise, but Champions League football on Sky doesn't seem to affect audience's on BBC/ITV that much. Having a debate scheduled against Eastenders or Coronation Street would probably affecting viewing figures more than football on Sky IMO

With regards to Monday night's, I suppose if Coronation Street's second episode got moved to a different day, 8.30-10 could be a good slot, and would lead nicely into the 10 o'clock news bulletins on BBC/ITV/Sky for analysis/other parties reactions etc

Interesting interview with Eamon Holmes in the Sunday Express at the weekend, including talk of the rumours of him returning to GMTV (he didn't rule it out). Most interesting for us anoraks, however, was his comments about the news being presented by 2 people, each reading a line each, describing it as being very 80s. Certainly toeing the Sky News line, but I'm inclined to agree with him - Sunrise works really well with its current format and I've been watching it a lot more recently.

Eamon and Charlotte Hawkins are part of a pub quiz team as well if you're interested!

Martin Stanford was just reminiscing about using Tablet PC's back in the old Sky News Centre years back, in the wake of the iPad release. Sky are always one step ahead eh, even of Apple! Very Happy

Guess there could be some live presentation from Westminster tomorrow then. Burley being given mugs of coffee again. That sort of thing.

Why does Burley get all the OB's these days? You never really see Dermot out and about.
