Agree. Especially when you consider how many weeks it seemed they had presenters out in Portugal for Madeline McCann's disappearance, as tragic as that was (for her family), it sadly pales into insignificance in the bigger picture re Haiti.

That aside, the reporting from the team, especially Stuart Ramsay, has been excellent.

Currently Breaking News that Bob Ainsworth has accidentally given away (live on Sky News, of course, so we'll never hear the end of it) that the General Election will be held on May 6th.

So how long before Gordon Brown confirms this and Sky News leap into *ZOMG THERE'S AN ELECTION SOON* mode like they did the last two times? Because you can bet your life they've got it all ready to go the second it happens.

This date has been mentioned so often that perhaps even members of the Government have come to believe it. It's only mentioned because it coincides with the local elections in England and Northern Ireland (unless there are also some in Scotland and Wales this year).

However, as happened in 2001, the date for local elections can be moved and there is no reason why the Government wouldn't delay them until a June General Election rather than incur the cost of two election processes within only a matter of weeks.

I think there's more to it with this interview, though. The way he hesitates before saying "on the 6th of May", he was definitely thinking about what he was saying, and the pause only served to emphasise the date even more.

Either he's been told to say it, or he's trying to cause a bit of unrest towards Brown. There was something fishy going on.

Is there work going on in the newsroom part of the studio or is the desk just stuck in front of the gallery backdrop? Its been there a couple of days now.

I imagine a continious "Breaking News" ticker that the election is May 6th once it is called - all the way until the day itself....

Are Sky still showing the appeal in the ticker to sign a petition for leader debates even though they were agreed weeks ago? A wonder too they haven't added an appeal to sign a petition for court room cameras too, which seems to be what they're after now.

Sky News and BBC News are going to be unwatchable this week - once again the idea of rolling news will be ditched in favour of continuous live coverage of the Iraq inquiry, which is not what I expect from a news channel. Stick it on the red button and let the main channel carry on reporting all of the days news.
