How did Sky News manage to get an interview with perfect picture quality out of Haiti with someone? There's no power, no communications - The US can't get in touch with their offices there - and an aftershock was shown during the Live interview... they were very lucky indeed by the look of things.

It was an interview with someone at a radio station so they probably had a big fat pipe rather than just a home ADSL connection. They were probably using Skype. If you have overscan turned off on your TV, you could see the video that Sky were sending back, it was a blonde woman sitting in an office with a man standing up behind her. They also had an audio only interview over Skype earlier. The caller said he accesses the Internet with a dish on his roof, I would have thought that would cause a delay, but it seemed okay.
Either way, a massive scoop for Sky. Especially seeing an aftershock live.

A little foresight mightn't have gone amiss though, don't you think? It's not like there weren't millions of people at the time saying it was a bad idea.
Perhaps you'd rather we had more endless coverage of snow.
No chance of any real news on Sky or the BBC News Channel today then with rolling news dropped in favour of live streaming of the Iraq inquiry, which seems to completely forget such decisions were not made back in 2003 with the benefit of hindsight.

Interesting article where John Ryley defends FOX News and says while he wants Sky News to be impartial, he would like to have a choice in the matter.
It would appear that now that Ryley and co. have a taste of 'campaigns' they are not going to stop at the Leaders Debate;

I admit I would find myself watching court cases on TV, and it should be done especially as most court cases are open to a public gallery. I would want officials of the court to operate the feed to ensure impartiality, and for it to have its own digital channels, which can also be open to a feed for news outlets...

Cheap way of filling air-time.

Would you want your court case broadcast on TV if you were the defendant though? However inpartial the TV coverage was it would be viewed by a tiny audience (after the initial novelty) whereas it would be used by newspapers in the form of screenshots and selected clips to paint people in the worse possible light. While we have the powerful, nasty and poorly regulated newspaper industry in this country, I don't think court rooms should be shown on TV. They can't even be trusted to report the Big Brother live stream impartially.

Edit: Robert Nisbet and Stuart Ramsay are both en route.
Thought they may also send a presenter to capitalise on their strong coverage so far. I guess it's early days though.
