It seems as though the dot com show may get an hour long version every Friday from December - welcome recognition for an excellent innovative show and a timely reminder of what Sky News does best.

... part 2 devoted to tech themes...

Could this be the return of Technofile?

Hope so! The Dot Com show really has developed into a great programme.

I think skys coverage in Cumbria has been really impressive over the last few days. Colin Brazier and in particular Andrew Wilson have been really great anchoring it especially as it is a continually developing story. Also their north west reporters have done a tremendous job and also Sky's online coverage has given us an insight and also for those affected by the flooding

Looks like the Sky News EPG data is being improved from next month onwards. Dec 1 onwards on both my Freeview EPG and DigiGuide now carries more information. For example, Sky News at Six is now listed instead of just 2 hours of Live at Five, and the Press Preview also has its own individual entry. Afternoon Live has been separated into 6 x 30 minute slots, and The Live Desk is now correctly labelled for both its slots and also split up into 4 half hour entries.

The DigiGuide descriptions include lots of detail including precise times for certain features:

Quote:
NEWS: The Live Desk
On: Sky News (82)
Date: Tuesday 1st December 2009 (starting in 5 days)
Time: 09:30 to 10:00 (30 minutes long)

Headlines, business news at 0935, including a look at the Far East markets live from Sydney, inside the newspapers at 0942, and the Agenda at 0950.

30 minutes long?
Why is that? Strange to start the programme at 9:30..

It's being labelled as four half-hour slots: 9am-9.30am, 9.30am-10am, 1pm-1.30pm, 1.30pm-2pm.

the Press Preview also has its own individual entry.

That's good. I currently have a daily 'manual record' set for 11.31pm-11.55pm for the Press Preview on my Sky+. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a 'series link' option for "Press Preview".

Looking further ahead, everything is split up into half hour slots eventually. Not quite sure why, probably so they can give more detail on times for certain segments. One thing they missed though- Sky.com News hasn't been renamed to SkyNews.com and the hour-long edition on Fridays isn't yet showing.

What are Sky News' policies to advertisement frequencies and timing when breaking news events occur? Can they cut through an advertisement break to cover a developing event?
