Is it just me who is concerned at the amount of airtime given to the BNP by Sky News at the moment? I've seen numerous live interviews with Nick Griffin in the past few weeks and months. I'm firmly in the 'everybody should be allowed their say' camp, but I think he's having a lot more say than other minority groups of late, and certainly a lot more on Sky than elsewhere.

Seems fair enough. Nick Griffin is in the news at the moment due to people disagreeing with him appearing on Question Time and the BNP using poppys and other symbals that some people don't like.

Looks like Sky News is splashing the cash ahead of the HD launch

According to that article the deal signed with EVS Broadcast Equipment is worth €4 million

Interesting - EVS is a very well regarded company and has a near-monopoly on the sport server market with their LSM product (Live Slow Motion). They have just launched a more basic (and cheaper) system for news studio playouts - as they realised a lot of non-sports shows were using their LSM sports servers for standard playout even though they didn't need the sport-specific facilities like slow-motion replays and super-slow motion etc.

Shows like X Factor and Strictly use EVS for fast-turnaround highlights (so they can drop in shots from a performance seconds after it has happened), and even reasonably straight forward shows are using them for VT inserts rather than using tape. They are also used for fast turnaround highlights edits of sporting events - in some cases the final shots are still being added or replaced when the beginning of the edit is being played out!

They are incredibly reliable devices, with an excellent operator UI, and have good links with both Avid and Final Cut Pro for integration. (You can record material onto EVS and edit with this content, and you can send edited content back, both very effectively)

Noggin may I ask what would the benefits to Sky News of using this system?

On another note looks as though Sky may have jumped the gun breaking the news the Lockerbie bomber had died according to sources. The story appears to have been pulled from the website after his lawyers denied it.

Is it possible there could be an early launch for Sky News HD? I ask this because things seem to be happening fast and with screen tests happening in mid October?

A big computer monitor has been positioned on the island behind Martin on SkyNews.com. Looks like it could be for a Windows 7 demonstration later in the programme.

I doubt it. Reading the Sky Press Release on the use of the EVS system, it says that Sky News will now work to introduce the EVS solutions across its operation by Spring next year and will embark upon a thorough training system with all affected staff to ensure a smooth changeover next year.

Is Sky News turning into Outtake TV?

They seem to be giving a lot of coverage to the 'giant seagull' which appeared behind an Australian newsreader when it walked a little too close to the camera providing the live cityscape background.

And to think Claire Frisby from Look North's similar style giant spider from a few years ago never got a mention anywhere. Sad

When the clocks change ( tonight)

Do the reports state it 1am BST then an hour later 1am GMT?

The Sky News clocks didn't cope very well with the clocks going back. Jason de la Pena was on, but Jo was finishing the weather, and from 1:59 it went to 3:00. After around half a minute later it went down to 2:00 and then eventually 1:00.

Do what reports state it is 1:00 BST and then 1:00 GMT?
