It's interesting the amount of coverage Sky News and the UK media in general are giving to the sad death of Stephen Gately. By contrast, here in Ireland, it's not the lead story on the radio or tv. I don't think the funeral will be covered by the Irish stations either.
Wonder if Sky will send the all knowing Burley to Dublin for the funeral. Sheriff Street, where the funeral will take place, is one of the roughest areas in Ireland.
Very early I know, but the Christmas schedule is online. Good luck if you want more than a 15 minute bulletin between 10am and 5pm. There isnt even the 1pm Live Desk, which was introduced on Bank Holidays this year to break up the 7 hour News/Sport/Weather cycle...
Im surprised that Sky havent realised something 'big' usually happens in the Christmas/New Year period, and their 15 minute bulletin cycle normally ends up being changed to accomodate a big story. The Gaza fighting last year, the Benazir Bhutto attack the year before, Sadaam Hussain being executed the year before that. While some people do have less time for the news at that time off year (probably the reason for the 15 minute bulletins), there is still a need to provide time for analysis, detail and longer interviews on major stories
So whats the chances Dermot will be appearing on 15 minute bulletins again this year
Very much so. It is an underrated skill what she's doing. People are watching for the pictures, but you can't just broadcast silence, so she has to be able to fill, and she's doing it fairly seamlessly.
This is going to be a difficult skill to pull off - an audio feed only, but very good camerawork so far, very emotive.
Sky got one over the BBC earlier - the News Channel broke off because Louis Walsh was heading towards the press, only for Louis to head over directly to Sky and leave them looking a bit bemused.
The BBC is missing the start due to their simulcast with Sky News, but to be honest I'm not sure they shouldn't be taking non-stop live coverage of this anyway, they should be providing an alernative, and having a serious agenda.
Good? The ridiculous coverage is only marginally better then the Jade Goody circus. Anyone would think we were burying Elvis not a faded 90's popstar.
While he doesn't personally matter to me, this does matter to a hell of a lot of people, especially in Dublin, where Sky News covers while the BBC technically doesn't.
If you don't like it I'm sure the BBC News Channel will provide an alternative.

Obviously a daily mail reader.....uncalled for on this sad day. Sky news are an Irish broadcaster. Sky are pulling everything out to cover this for the UK and Irish audience. It will be over in 1 hour then you can return to 15 min repeated news.

They're not. Michael Jackson I could understand but come on -as sad as his death is - it's Stephen Gately!

You're right. You should rally another pretentious vigilante mob up on Twitter immediately.
No, I think he's got a legitimate point over what gets wall-to-wall coverage, I just disagree with him.
I'm astonished no station in Ireland is providing coverage of this though. While it's quite big over here I would have imagine it's a far bigger matter over there. May be another reason why Sky has gone big on it.
Yes im living in Ireland and I would imagine Sky has massive viewing figures because Irish people seem to be very Interested in it. I would imagine one of the reasons none of the Irish broadcasters are showing it is due to the fact that there is only audio.
