Who ever is on Sky News at the moment hasn't a clue how to deal with breaking news (Israeli air strikes on Gaza).

At least they were covering it. BBC News went to Click!

Whoever it is they've brought in to help her out doesn't seem any more professional.

That is Tim Marshall - Sky's distinguished and erudite foreign affairs editor.

I love the word "erudite". It is so Stephen Fry and Alastair Yates, don't you think? Especially with an extra roll on the "r".

Anyway, who is that lady there seated next to the errrrrrrudite Tim Marshall? Is it the Charlotte lady referred to earlier in the thread?

Very strange looking TOTH shot at 2pm. It looks to me as if the whole right hand side of the studio (with the fins) has been removed overnight.

I took a picture, sorry for the bad quality, but you can see something different on the right hand side.

The light box object at the end looks very close to the desk, too red. I think when you see it on screen you can tell is not real.

It is obvious that they are in the virtual studio today

I thought maybe they had just hung up a green wall to the right hand side, to create a CSO?

Were the overnight bulletins with Lukwesa (sp?) which looked chroma-keyed played out on a loop? Saw a bulletin around 2ish where a delay of about two seconds preceded one of the packages, the same delay was on the 5am bulletin.

He was actually just receiving the news that the first Israeli citizen had been killed by Palestinian mortar attack from the floor manager - a pretty important piece of news I think you'll agree.

I think one problem with the current solo-presenting is that we effectively have an A team and a B team of presenters, which I don't like that much. It's only times like this over Christmas where the B team (the likes of Charlotte Hawkins, Sasha Twining etc) get to present on their own, and it does show sometimes their inexperience of handling breaking stories. Double-headed shows would get over this, having them presenting alongside instead of reading out the stuff too mundane for the A team (the Kays and the Eamons). As I mentioned in an earlier post though, it's probably cheaper how it is.

And yes, that side bit next to the desk looks strange, but fair play to them for having work going on pretty much unnoticeable to the untrained eye!

Well you can also see the old computers behind the presenter shot, so it probably is a tempoary studio, with the new look maybe going live on New years day?

The neon lights part looks like its a printed backdrop, and yes in the wide shot theres no computers behind the desk, but in the close up, the computers are there.

The CSO section there is on the left hand side, with the newsroom/newswall backdrop. They're in the virtual studio, note the fake version of screen on the desk with the Sky News logo. Being a proper virtual set-up, it works a bit better than a bog standard CSO, with the background moving with the cameras.

I'm not sure why they've not CSO'd the whole background, including the right hand side with the neon lights as well, and have gone for a painted backdrop instead, but I suppose it would work as a good backup point to present from should anything go wrong with the CSO.
