I don't like it either, very cheep and in the last minute. I feel sorry for people who have to work today and repeat the same crap every 10 minutes, it's just crazy, like slaves. Sky News is so bad it's hard to find right words to describe it.

I think that Sky News, today should have been double headed, presented all from the main desk in either 60min or even 30 minute bulletins.

They could have done Anna & Charlotte, Samantha & Jason and Sarah Jane Mee & Anna Jones.

They could have had a nice cleans schedule today, but instead continued this 15 minutes stuff. Not SKY NEWS is it?

Also last night, they wasn't using the swipe into the studio shot, which was much nicer, but returned today.

Because it isn't really in that much of a mess. Graphically, the channel is a lot better than it has been in recent years (I mean come one, did anyone seriously like the red slug era?). The solo presenting thing is admittedly not as good as having 2 people presenting, but I imagine it's a considerable saving on payroll costs. The newsroom backdrop on the newswall is no worse than what BBC News do - in fact, it looks a lot better than that.

Yes there's things that have changed that I don't agree with, but I don't believe that the channel is the monotonous, incoherent mess that people here are making it out to be.

Oh come off it - any channel that actively over-plugs its own website every minute of the freaking day and then goes and sticks on the most repetitive and monotonous tripe ever broadcast in the evenings is, in my opinion at least, in one deep pile of sh!t. How do you even come round to that way of thinking, in a meeting with an entire group of educated, experienced and mature adults? They are throwing money down the fecking toilet - do they not think that by 8pm in the evening most people already know what has happened in the world today, probably thanks to the amazing skynews.com, sky news desktop alerts
AND the sky news loop at railway stations.

No focus group has ever suggested that they want 15 minutes of news on a loop for two hours. If they have, they must have been lying - 'cos they ain't fecking watching, are they? I see, yet again, sky news has slipped to an audience share of 0.4%, despite it now having equal coverage!

If they wanted to do something that actually made a bit of sense that compliments the tv channel and the website, they could brand the news summaries as 'Sky News.com: Top Stories' or something similar - I haven't thought it out. This would then give them an opportunity to continue to build the websites reputation as an all news, dip in, dip out, entity, whilst at the same time providing them with an opportune moment to subtly plug the website. Lets face it they already have all that 'top three on our website' shizzle now anyway.

Then they can focus on the evenings. They could start by commissioning/buying some documentaries. They don't bat an eyelid doing it at this time of year so why should the rest of the time be any different?

I'm not sure that you necessarily need two presenters any more in all honesty, although I think there needs to be more of a feeling of each program being a team effort. Watching Fox's Shep Smith it is always interesting how he will sometimes have a bit of on air banter with his off-air floor manager (Jessica) towards the end of the newscast, that said and done it needs to be natural and that sort of thing can not be forced or faked. if it is you only make the situation worse.

I think a tag team style could potentially work although, then again, I think they would need to be in the same area of the studio, either in the shoe box or at the desk for it to work - I think if they were in different positions they could feel too distant.

I'm pleased to see evidence that the layout of the news centre is changing. Making the studio fit the programs rather than the programs fitting the studio is always a good move, but more of the same certainly wouldn't be good either.

I think possibly the easiest aspect to concentrate on is the graphics. As Martin has said, the best thing to do is to start giving each program its own feel with separate graphics, and then build the shows personality on top of that. It seems to be the fashion to give every thing the same style (BBC, ITV and possibly CNN), so sky could really make an impression about what it stands for.

Just thought I would get a break from the family for a few minutes, flicked on Sky News and saw Ashish Joshi. Great to see him get the chance at presenting. But is it just me or is that a green screen behind him?

I don't like the fake newswall, but the close up shot looks nice today. It seems to have more red than before?

Ashish is really good, so is Samantha Simmonds and Sarah Jane Mee. They seem to have good presenters on over Christmas, with Anna Jones and Faye Barker on aswell.

It seems a waste that Jason was next to SJ Mee all afternoon just repeating the same 2 sports stories, why not have him present the news with SJ Mee? His name was even announced at the TOTH.

Back to what Sky News should do, even just going double headed for their main programmes, then single for normal news programming. Even make the 15 minute bulletins into 30 minutes would be far better.

My point exactly, thus I find it difficult that people can have a problem with one, but not with the other

Well, if you think that looks as good as last years, then good luck to you.

It's not the same , there's too much white stuff on the tree and on the newsroom. The tree and snowflakes looked a lot better in 2007. Very Happy

Is it me or that this year's Christmas background seemed more of grey than white, as in 2007's? 2007's slightly nicer in my opinion.
