That'll be Ashish Joshi - he does work permanent for Sky News but mostly as a reporter - only over the past few months has he taken up more presenting roles.
And as for getting rid of the fake newswall - I'm right with you!!
Also I hope when we get this "new-look" that twin headed presenting is brought back - the summary style stuff at the moment just doesn't work all day! It's ok for Sunrise but not SN Today and Afternoon Live.

Expect any changes to address the issue of the newsroom and the newswall. Whilst expanding the shoebox is a good idea, doing so at the expense of other standing areas of the studio (e.g. elbow and pod) could represent a cementing of an already much discussed, and disliked, policy.
I just think it is funny how Mr Ryley and Birkett, have both been at sky for a considerable length of time, and both were in positions of considerable responsibility when Sky News Today was popular, and news from the newsroom and newswall widely used. It's simply unbelievable how there can be such a whole-sale change in both format and presentation in such a short space of time effectively, especially when the people running the show have remained the same.
I think it shows a lack of any real understanding or knowledge on the part of those in change of the channel. Sky News has been a channel that has taken a good few years to build up, both in finance and audience terms. This is a channel, after all, that has barely ever turned over a profit, and with strong competition internationally and domestically this could be put in jeopardy. Where's the hyperactivity, the life, the soul, the arrogance?

spot on. i thought ryley was recent and just compare the channel from 2002 to now. everything has gone downhill, mainly the presentation. and i am surprised that taking the channel to such a low, they don't appear to do anything about it, just make it worse.
in 2005 they tried to spread the sky news today style to everything, then when it wasn't working out, they took it out of the whole schedule, and left everything in a mess. then this presenting format just killed it. and moving programmes to parts of the studio which is frankly idiotic, by that i mean sunrise.
then replacing fantastic graphics with cheap bland ones. then bodging up the music...

One of the main people behind the success of Sky News Today circa 2002 was Martin Stanford. He's the one who pushed the innovation, the use of tablet PCs etc, and if you look at the programmes he currently works on (Skynews.com, Technofile & Unplugged), they are the most interesting - especially Unplugged in terms of presentation.
Bosses at the channel saw the success of SNT, and ran with it too much with the 2005 relaunch. It failed, they instantly ran away scared and reverted to a very conservative presentation style.
Viewers switched off because they didn't get the headlines on the hour with the new look, they got them at over a minute past after all the fluffy stuff, and 3 main presenters just didn't work.
If the 2005 relaunch had just brough over the programme strands from pre-2005 then the channel possibly wouldn't be in the mess it is in now.

Because it isn't really in
that
much of a mess. Graphically, the channel is a lot better than it has been in recent years (I mean come one, did anyone seriously like the red slug era?). The solo presenting thing is admittedly not as good as having 2 people presenting, but I imagine it's a considerable saving on payroll costs. The newsroom backdrop on the newswall is no worse than what BBC News do - in fact, it looks a lot better than that.
Yes there's things that have changed that I don't agree with, but I don't believe that the channel is the monotonous, incoherent mess that people here are making it out to be.

Is it the first time for a while that Kay Burley isn't presenting Sunrise on Christmas Day for a change?

I think the graphics are god awful, but that's just me. The problem at Sky Centre, is the fact that they are not making full use of their huge newsroom, the energy and passion has been lost, and the newswall is now merely a background, and not an integral part of the news presenting.
They have lost what made it special back from 2001, and before that with its separate programmes from 1998. Bring back unique looking strands, with their own graphics and presenting regions, or go back to live news covering the whole newsroom.

Looks like Jason De La Pena drew the short straw today. 7 hours of 15 minute bulletins with him fronting the sport. That's him saying the same few things 28 times by the way. At least he has had the lovely Samantha Simmonds and now the equally lovely Sarah-Jane Mee for company, haha.
