I would assume, rightly or wrongly, that they will need to take the studio out of commission for a couple of days to complete the set changes. It may seem sensible to do the newswall upgrade plus other changes at the same time.

I would expect they will broadcast out of Millbank during the re-work.

i wonder when it will take place. Hopefully it will be well thought out and not some hatchet job.

LOL. Samantha Simmonds just made the inevitable slip up. "Stay with us, we'll have all the Stop Tories, Top Stories, coming up." Laughing

On a serious note she's been very good on the evening news this weekend while Steve's been off. I'm glad Sky are finally giving her some more high profile slots than just the news wrap on a Sunday afternoon.

Good luck with them on that one, Millbank isn't exactly roomy...

Am I right in saying that the minor change will take place in January?

I have no idea, all I know is that I've been to the Millbank studio once. Razz

There are several areas in the studio that they could broadcast from during the works. I would expect the bulk of the work to be done during the pre-recorded Review of the Year programmes and the early hours when they can play recorded bulletins, And if the noise gets too much, then there is always the green screen studio.

They've broadcast at Millbank before, back when the old Sky News Centre was getting a refurb.

Apparently there is a Year in Review with Adam Boulton, and two other special programmes, and I think the normal series of specials on issues such as Royals, Crime etc. which they have had for years. Sky Publicity (sky.com/publicity) says this:

Quote:

Sky News Political Editor Adam Boulton looks back on all the major news stories of 2008, a year that has been dominated by global economic turmoil.

From Britain's bumper haul at the Beijing Olympics and the dramatic US election which resulted in America's first black President, to the devastating Sichuan earthquake which left thousands dead and the shocking disappearance of Shannon Matthews, Adam will present a comprehensive review of the year.
Thursday 25 December 20.00
Sky News will also offer viewers another chance to revisit some of the other main news stories of the year including two new special programmes:

Afghanistan
Sky News joins the Parachute Regiment’s elite reconnaissance platoon in Afghanistan for their six month tour of duty, offering a unique insight into life on the front line as the men of the Pathfinder Platoon come face-to-face with the Taliban.
Wednesday 24 December 21.00

Perisher
Sky News reveals the rigorous challenge of the Royal Navy’s Submarine Command Course which, is regarded as one of the toughest command courses in the world. The challenge winners will have their finger on Britain's nuclear trigger, serving on board a Royal Navy Submarine. The losers will never be put to sea in a submarine again.

I think from the wording of that we can expect the usual special programmes on top of what is listed there, but no details yet.

As well as the year in review stuff, Sky Programme Info lists reruns of Canoe Man, Diana, Mandela: A Personal View etc................ so just basically all the specials from throughout the year as normal.

On another note - doesn't look like Kay's got her Xmas Day Sunrise slot! Helen Fospero is listed to be presenting Sunrise for 12 days straight during the Christmas/New Year period!
