I agree...the new programme's a welcome addition to Sky News...far better than those weird 'in 15 minutes every 15 minutes' summaries that clog up the weekends. Afternoon Live used to run from 1 until 5 IIRC, which was a bit too long, so I'm glad it now starts at 2.

This is great, finally they are using that newsroom and the set like it should, presenting from different parts of it. I always love seeing presenters in the back.

I would hope they will make Live Desk run from 12,as there is really no need for Dermot's show to be 4 hours long.
One thing I would like is for them to stick in another camera so that they could use more than one angle and do the sport and Martin's bit etc. from the newsroom.

Some nice use of the studio in Sky Today this morning, with Dermot starting off each hour at the newswall, and Paula doing news updates from the elbow with that shot used on Saturday Live with the newsroom in the background.
They also had Professor Heinz Wolff in the studio, firing mince pies at each other to demonstrate the Large Hadron Collider.

The Live Desk really is good stuff. I'm glad Sky are seeing that they were known for this kind of style for news presentation, and through the numerous rebrands / changes since the demise of the Appointment to view schedule of 2005 they just became like any other news broadcaster. I'd still like to see a return to the 2005 Sky News Today with Mark Longhurst, Steve Dixon and anyone but Ginny Buckley!

This live Reaction Panel thing reminds me of what they did for the Budget years ago just when Sky News Active first launched. They give out a freephone number and viewers are invited to press buttons on their telephone keypad to show whether or not they agree with what's being said at the time, and then at the end there's a live vote.

Loved the blue peter moment today. The collider in all its sticky back plastic glory.
I feel a whole lot safer now.

The Skycopter's currently flying across the Channel on it's way to the French end of the Channel Tunnel to report on the fire (good coverage from Sky, by the way).
I think this will be it's first time for it to provide pictures from outside the country?
