I'd like to like them but I think it looks a bit messy, to be honest.
I don't like the way things look like they're just floating in the middle of the screen, and how after the straps have animated on, the edges don't line up with anything. The big black bars either side of the clock are ugly.
There's also too much use of caps - everything on the screen is in caps and you don't know what to look at first.
I like some of it, although I'm not very keen on the CNN-like captions that don't line up, I do like all the animations, full-screen graphics and the TOTH.
The smaller ticker gives the pictures a lot more "room to breathe" to borrow a term from the bbc.co.uk revamp, which is much better, but when the 'Live' bug is on screen it suddenly looks a bit cluttered, with something going on in each corner. Would be much better if they could intergrate it with the logo in the top left, like the 2001 look. Sort of like:
OK, firstly it's better than the last lot of graphics for sure - far better in fact - but still not a patch on the 2005 straps.
The on-screen graphics are a very poor rip-off of CNN, of Sky Sports News, infact - and don't look anywhere near as effective - but they do the job, and there does seem less clutter on screen.
The live dog though looks out of place, as if they'd forgotten to change it to the new look.
The headline sequence though is awful - the straps look more suited to a kids programme than a news channel, and they're letting the whole thing down.
So overall, certainly better - but that doesn't mean they're any good.
Put the clock next to the Sky News DOG at the top of the screen. Make the ticker full length and then incorporate the Live and Location underneath the DOG and clock.
So far in the Ticker at the bottom of the screen I haven't seen anything else other than a constant Breaking News strap.
The borderless logo has been used by Sky News Australia for a few month's now, they've most probably seen that and then also Sky Sports and thought of doing the same.
