Don't get your hopes up, just a refresh as opposed to any major changes. Hyperbole is common disease round here!

The changes are pretty major but in keeping with the Sky News we've known since 2005. I know each strand will be positioned or framed in a certain way.

The biggest changes?

There'll be no virtual newsroom behind Dermot or JT anymore. It will be similar...but real.

Eamonn will sit behind a American chat show style desk.

Newswall unchanged. A bit more room on the floor for cameras etc. The neon globe bit where James Rubin used to be positioned will be gone.

By "real" do you mean the desk will now have the actual newsroom as a background?

yes. You'll be able to see journos and internet team in the background... but lit and framed in the same way as the virtual background was.

Interesting, because isnt most of the wall behind the neon globe background filled with screens?

Last time there were people actually working behind it?

So they will have blue and red lights on some of the desks, with some kind of perspex with faded white strips, and blue and red gels? How will the newswall feature in this new setup, also is it red and blue throughout, and the shoebox, is it being setup as a soft area for sunrise and interviews etc?

We need someone to get in there and make some photos. Evil or Very Mad Very Happy

Presuming I'm thinking correctly, it sounds as if the desk will be placed in the old World News Tonight space, with a shot of the gallery. Then in place of the neon globe, one or two rows of newsroom desks?

That still leaves the question if the fins will be there. I think the shoebox area will be extended up to where the old CSO was.

Also, with there being a new 'live' background of the newsroom, what will be shown on the newswall?

I hope not, the desk should be there but with the shot of the newsroom behind the find. That way they could use both the newswall and the newsroom as backgrounds.
The area behind the globe always looked small and empty, unless they totally redecorate it.

desk in broadly the same place but by removing the neon globe section you'll see the real journos behind if that makes sense. So an open newsroom...but they're so far back the noise will only be ambient.

You can see that there were always desks back in that area, even though they weren't usually seen on screen:

On dear - the days when the graphics were good Crying or Very sad
I think that logo and backdrop on the news wall were much better than what we have now and what we are likely to get in the future - hey ho Sad

I know. Wasn't a huge fan of the lower thirds (I preferred the boxed ones which were used in rehearsals and dumped not long before the launch) but the programme title logos and newswall backgrounds were great, as was the more varied use of the set.

Is that Ginny sitting at the computer behind the globe??? Shocked

It is indeed Ginny, Ginnyfan!

I presume she went there while Mark was anchoring a segment of Sky News Today...those were the days!

The studio actually looks amazing there. I can't wait to see the new one, I hope Sky can at least still have a good studio (and hopefully they'll put it to good use)

Also, Blake mentioned the boxed graphics used during rehearsal time for the relaunch in '05, does anyone have images of those graphics? I'm sure there were a lot of them at the time but I've only found one since.
