What did Sky News do February 1999 - would this be an indication of the scale of any changes that may come in two weeks?

Don't get your hopes up, just a refresh as opposed to any major changes. Hyperbole is common disease round here!

The changes are pretty major but in keeping with the Sky News we've known since 2005. I know each strand will be positioned or framed in a certain way.

The biggest changes?

There'll be no virtual newsroom behind Dermot or JT anymore. It will be similar...but real.

Eamonn will sit behind a American chat show style desk.

Newswall unchanged. A bit more room on the floor for cameras etc. The neon globe bit where James Rubin used to be positioned will be gone.

No fundamental changes with music though. You may hear the odd remix from the various updates done over the years, but nothing thats new or exciting I'm afraid.

At 5:50pm on Feb 5th they did this. Aside from that, the only thing they did was have these words added to the top of the hour ident for the rest of the year:

Well it certainly is more radical than the reported dust and polish around the current main studio lol.
It goes to show that nothing will happen come February the 5th. A tweak with the set at most.

It's more than tweaks...more an evolution. But it won't be a "revamp" a la Oct 05

By "real" do you mean the desk will now have the actual newsroom as a background?

yes. You'll be able to see journos and internet team in the background... but lit and framed in the same way as the virtual background was.

So, is the newsroom "open", or is there a glass wall separating the areas.
