Have a look at Anna Jones' analysis of the recession (which is getting it's own little branded strap by the look of it) on Sky News Active and there's a very unusual CSO background.

It's a strange looking newsroom background, with the familiar neon globe in the background, and the steps, and bits of red and dash of blue. And lots of purple.

Another mess from the Sky News Graphics Department. Really pointless aswell. Since when has Sky News Business been purple and what a mess of a background.

I don't see why it can't just have a background of the real Sky Centre. They are faking everything now, the newswall background and active backgrounds.

Whats the point in having a specially designed tv news centre, if you're just going to hide it or not show it?

My god onsky , you must either be very young, or have some issues with the passage of time...

The News Active screens are done cheaply on CSO. Rather than just use some VT of the news centre, some designer decided to jazz it up a bit for the showbiz.

They happen to use it for a business report, and you then come to the conclusion they are going to cheap CSO permanently!

deary me...

I can't help thinking that they must be making significant changes to the studio. Surely it wouldn't require a 4 -6 week break from the main studio just to make cosmetic changes? Any insiders able to drop a few more hints?

Yeah, I agree. Maybe its ready, just waiting for the 20th Ann? If not, there is more stuff going on like you say.

Well still about 2 weeks to the launch I gather.

Onsky does have a point Martin. Surely Sky should go down the WNBC route in New York and equip certain desks in the newsroom with HD cameras. They could file updates or produce segments with these cameras. It would add a whole new meaning to the Sky News Centre.

I did suggest before having the Business, Weather, Sport, and feature programmes from throughout the newsroom, what onsky seemed to be suggesting was that the use of that false background was an indication that the CSO was no permanent.

No-one from the inside seems to want to drop hints other than:
- the removal of the desks between the main desk and newswall;
- the shoebox being enlarged;

and possibly...
- an upgrade to the newswall
- removal of the fins and circular structure

I am hoping for HD upgrades, some nice refurbishments for additional presenting areas, less red and blue more orange teal and yellow, a new main desk, some business and breaking news tickers and displays throughout the newsroom, and finally, new graphics...

Well they are aiming for bigger use of smaller parts of the set(i.e the Sunrise changes mentioned in the blog before Christmas).

There will be no new graphics.
