Larger, multicase text on the strap, all aligned to the ticker and the red strap smaller...

I think multicase looks messy and horrible. There's nothing wrong with CAPS at all, makes everything neat and linear.

All caps are loud and heavy, even if it all lines up. Small spcaed out caps in the right font can look classy, but lowercase is more legible

The CAPS on Sky News are quite small!

Don't forget Sky News is shown in many public places too, such as offices, banks, shops, airports, train stations etc. etc.

Trying to read something that is in lowercase from a distance is certainly not as legible as something in capitals.

Regular type is honestly messy on the screen and make everything harder to read, I mean, look back at the '05 scroller. In most videos, it's somewhat readable, but the all caps version towards the end of that era and even the current era is much more readable. Regular type isn't something that should be on a news network most of the time honestly, though they can work for titles and maybe a short headline or something alike.

The Sky News website has this afternoon had a link to a story referring to the death of Prince Philip, however when clicked on it said the story was unavailable. However the page title could still be read.

Wo, pretty big mistake. Or is there a media blackout?

I think you need to rephrase that slightly. Thats implying they had a full article, when infact it was just a heading on the Cambell story which would only been noticed when reading that story, but when clicked on, the article did not appear but the title did.

I hate to be the one to bring psychology into it (boo hiss etc.), but the human brain is supposed to recognise words, at least partly, by their shape. This is less easy to do with ALL UPPERCASE words, as they have less of a distinct shape than mixed case ones. I do feel there is something in that, so I would argue that mixed case is easier to read.

I do think these Sky News graphics would benefit from some more variety in their font weights, sizes and cases. At present most of the text presented on-screen is roughly the same size and weight - you don't really know what to look at first. Also, to me, the ticker looks more prominent than the information strap. Something like Martin's mock would make the information more delineated.

The straps are awful. They're not "news" straps, more like the straps off a programme like "The One Show".

Have we seen any American Election graphics since the new look came in. Also when will they fix the alignment of the straps, and are they planning special graphic devices for the London Mayoral Elections / Local Election coverage...

From the Feral Beast diary column in the Independent on Sunday:

Quote:
Declan Curry, BBC Breakfast's face of the stock market, is said to be moving to Sky. A presenter on BBC News 24 for more than 10 years, Declan is so popular that there are five Facebook groups dedicated to him. No doubt Sky made an offer he couldn't refuse, although fellow presenter Maryam Mashiri might be over-optimistic when she writes on his profile, "I hope it's not for less than £3m".
